Mockers and Deniers in the ‘Last Days’: Charles Barkley Has Something to Say to the ‘Losers’ Who Watched Monday’s Eclipse

God’s Promise Is Not Slack

3 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Jude 1:17-19 But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ:  how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

The Mockers of Peter

In the second epistle of Peter, the apostle warns about the presence of mockers in the last days. These individuals scoff at the idea of Christ’s return, doubting its validity. Unfortunately, this issue of mockery persisted even in the early church.

“Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’” 2 Peter 3:3-4

It is disheartening to see individuals mock the hope of Christ’s return, questioning the very foundation of our faith. The apostle Peter’s words serve as a reminder to remain steadfast in our belief, trusting in the promises of God despite the skepticism of mockers.

Charles Barkley Has Something to Say to the ‘Losers’ Who Watched Monday’s Eclipse

Declan Gallagher April 9, 2024

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has no time for the “losers” who gathered to watch Monday’s eclipse. The commentator shared his thoughts during Turner’s broadcast of the NCAA Men’s National Championship on Monday. The epic, nail-biting game saw UConn prevail 75–60 over Purdue, claiming the national title for the second year in a row. But throughout the competition, Barkley seemed more concerned with the day’s earlier event.

“Were y’all some of them losers standing outside watching that today?” Barkley asked his co-hosts, Clark Kellogg, Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Jay Wright, referring to the solar eclipse. Johnson immediately jumped to the defense of spectators across the country, exclaiming: “They’re not losers!”

“Yes, they are,” Barkley shot back. “Hey, we’ve all seen darkness before. Stop it.”

“Come on, Chuckster. Don’t hate on the eclipse,” Johnson begged his co-anchor.

“I’m not gonna sit outside like an idiot and wait on darkness,” Barkley argued. It’s gonna be dark when we go outside tonight.”

“Well,” Johnson interjected with more than a hint of sarcasm, “this was a very worthwhile segment.”

The 61-year-old then revealed that instead of watching the eclipse, he was trying to convince his grandson to take a look at the Charles Barkley blimp, which had been brought to Arizona by the NBA to celebrate the championship game.

The Pharisees and Sadducees’ Mockery of Jesus

The Pharisees and Sadducees, two prominent religious groups during the time of Jesus, often mocked and ridiculed him throughout his ministry. They questioned his authority, challenged his teachings, and sought to discredit him at every opportunity.

“This man casteth out devils only through Beelzebub the prince of the devils.” Matthew 12:24 (KJV)

This mocking and disbelief is exemplified in Matthew 12:24, where the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub. They intentionally twisted his miraculous works to fit their own agenda and undermine his credibility. The Pharisees, known for their strict adherence to religious laws and traditions, saw Jesus as a threat to their authority. They were threatened by his teachings, which challenged their legalistic approach to faith.

The Sadducees, on the other hand, were a wealthy and influential group associated with the priestly class. They rejected supernatural beliefs such as resurrection and the existence of angels. In Luke 16:14, they are described as those who “were lovers of money” and openly derided Jesus. Their skepticism and mockery were driven by their desire to maintain their power and control over the Jewish community. They saw Jesus as a disruptor and did everything they could to undermine him and his message. Despite the opposition and mockery from these religious leaders, Jesus continued to teach, heal, and demonstrate love and compassion to all. His unwavering commitment to his mission eventually led to his crucifixion, but his teachings and message continue to inspire and transform lives to this day.

The Mockers at Jesus’ Crucifixion

In the account of Jesus’ crucifixion in Mark 15:29-32, we see a disturbing display of mockery and ridicule from individuals passing by. These mockers challenged Jesus, taunting him to save himself if he truly was the Messiah.

“Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, ‘So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, come down from the cross and save yourself!’”

– Mark 15:29-30 (NIV)

It is disheartening to witness such callousness and lack of understanding from those who witnessed Jesus’ suffering. The mockers failed to comprehend the significance of Jesus’ sacrifice and the redemption he was offering to humanity. In the midst of their mocking, the mockers unknowingly fulfilled the prophetic words spoken in

Psalm 22:7-8, which says, “All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads” (NIV). The fulfillment of this prophecy further underscores the divine plan unfolding through Jesus’ crucifixion.

Despite the mocking and jeering, Jesus remained steadfast in his mission and purpose. He endured the pain, scorn, and humiliation, demonstrating his love and commitment to saving humanity from sin. As we reflect on the mockers at Jesus’ crucifixion, it serves as a reminder of the ignorance and disbelief that can exist even in the face of profound truth. It challenges us to examine our own hearts and consider whether we have truly embraced the message and sacrifice of Jesus.

The Elders and Scribes at the Tomb

During the time of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, the religious leaders of the time, including the elders and scribes, were deeply threatened by the growing influence and teachings of Jesus. They saw him as a challenge to their authority and a threat to their religious beliefs.

Following Jesus’ crucifixion, these religious leaders instructed the guards at Jesus’ tomb to spread a false story. They wanted to mock the idea of Jesus’ resurrection and maintain their power and control over the people. They were determined to suppress any belief in Jesus as the Messiah and undermine his followers.

Their plan involved bribing the guards to say that Jesus’ disciples had stolen his body while they were asleep. This false story aimed to discredit the notion of Jesus’ resurrection and discourage his followers from spreading the message of his triumph over death.

However, despite their efforts to deceive the masses, their scheme ultimately failed. The truth of Jesus’ resurrection prevailed, and the early Christians continued to proclaim the good news of salvation through his death and resurrection.

Make Your (7) Decision for Christ NOW!!!!!!! Time is Up!!!!!!!

Jesus Christ’s Offer of Salvation:

The ABCs (7) of Salvation through Jesus Christ (the Lamb)

  1. (7) Admit/Acknowledge/Accept that you are sinner. Ask (7) God’s forgiveness and repent of your sins.

. . . “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

. . . “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8).

B. Believe Jesus is Lord. Believe that (7) Jesus Christ is who He claimed to (7) be; that He was both fully God (7) and fully man and that we are (7) saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. (7) Put your trust in Him as your (7) only hope of salvation. Become a son (7) or daughter of God by receiving Christ. (7777777) 7×7

. . . “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15-17). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

C. Call upon His name, Confess (7) with your heart and with your lips (7) that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.

. . . “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (John 1:8-10).

. . . “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (John 2:2).

. . . “In this was manifested the love of god toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:9, 14-15).

. . . “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:8-10).

. . . “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

. . . “Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).

. . . “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 1:16).

. . . “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts: 4:12).

. . . “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).

. . . “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).

. . . “But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12).

True Church / Bride of Christ Spared from God’s Wrath:

Romans 5:8-10. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 12:19. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1:10. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
