Transhumanists take science as their religion and believe in a philosophy of “absolute relativism” that claims that individuals can change reality at will, and they seek to “relativize the human being” and “turn it into a putty that can be modified or molded to our taste and our desire and by rejecting those limits nature or God have placed on us.” Transhumanism therefore requires “the destruction of “the Judeo-Christian morality, which is based on absolute principles and values.”

Ultimate end: Redefining and reconfiguring the human nature and condition. Eventually, humans will merge with technology and become one with it, according to Schwab. “At the end, what the Fourth Industrial Revolution will lead to is a fusion of our physical, our digital, and our biological identities,” he declared at a speech at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and many since then. And he means it, too.

The newest effort by the godless camp to meddle with the natural course of humanity is the transhumanism movement, which seeks to accelerate “human evolution” through advanced technologies. Just like eugenics, there is no natural selection involved, but rather a selective implementation by and for those willing to pay the cost (and to be experimented upon). And there is no limit to the experimentation and no ethical constraints on applying the technologies.

First came eugenics, then came abortion on demand and infanticide, and now there is the new horizon posed by transhumanism. That is the evolution of an evil kind! None of these have moral, ethical, or religious constraints—all are arbitrary, determined by those holding political power.

Scrolling through the Instagram account of DJ and aspiring model Dex you’ll see her wearing new outfits, performing at shows around the world and chatting to her thousands of followers about her hobbies. However, it’s clear that there is something different about Dex; she’s an entirely virtual “digital human,” designed by a startup in the UK.

For her performances, Dex is displayed on a video screen or as a holographic projection, with her mixes created by humans. She is animated using Unreal Engine — a 3D modeling software widely used in video games — combined with motion-capture. Generative artificial intelligence allows her to remember information and respond to questions, using a voice also generated by AI.

“She’s probably one of the only digital humans in the performance space that you can have a conversation and interact with,” says Denise Harris, CCO of startup Sum Vivas. “You can ask her anything. She is a genius about music.” Last month, Dex performed at Digital Fashion Weeks in New York, Paris and Milan, and she has modeled outfits by Prada and Louis Vuitton at digital fashion events.

For Liverpool-based Sum Vivas she’s a “showpiece” for more practical applications. The company is now developing digital humans that can “listen” to people’s questions and converse in real time. “Shellie” can provide product information as an avatar on company websites, while “Arif” is set to direct passengers and answer questions as a multilingual concierge on screens at airports.

According to CEO and founder Rob Sims, digital humans can help bridge the gap between AI technology and people. “What we’ve found is when people start working with and conversing with a digital human, they very quickly suspend disbelief,” Sims tells CNN. “It becomes natural.”

Since OpenAI’s ChatGPT was launched in November 2022, considerable hype has surrounded the potential of generative AI — artificial intelligence powered by huge datasets of information, capable of generating text outputs in a conversational way.

Record levels of investment into generative AI have followed, with over $21 billion poured into the industry during the first nine months of last year, according to data insights company Pitchbook. In March 2023, Google launched Bard (recently renamed Gemini) and around the same time Anthropic released its AI assistant Claude. As generative AI chatbots become increasingly ubiquitous, Sum Vivas is one of several companies looking to make them more human.

US and New Zealand-based UneeQ has developed animated conversational “digital humans” that can be used as virtual sales reps and customer service agents on company websites, and this month it debuted Sama 2.0, an animated cabin crew member that answers questions on Qatar Airways’ website and app.

Microsoft recently announced that users of its Azure software would be able to create lifelike avatars capable of turning text prompts into animated speech. However, there are widespread concerns about the impact AI could have on the job market.

“When we rely on automated tools, what skills are we losing in the process?” asks Jennifer Ding, senior researcher at the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. “In some ways, we think of AI as something that’s helping us or augmenting our work,” she says. “However, alongside, this fear of replacement is bubbling up more and more.”

Harris, however, points to new opportunities within digital human design and development. “Every scenario that we found, we’re creating jobs and working in harmony with people rather than taking away jobs,” she says.

“Digital humans, first and foremost, should work with other human colleagues,” adds Sims. “We’ll move into a stage where digital humans will start to become just another member of the team, with added benefits for that team, and obviously the customers they serve.”

Acreepy demo of “Figure 01,” a humanoid, conversational robot, has hit the internet — and I can’t believe it’s not a deleted scene from I, Robot.

In the demo, Figure 01, packed with OpenAI-tech, is asked what it can “see.” Showing off its visual recognition prowess, the avant-garde robot accurately explains what’s in front of it: a red apple, a drying rack with dishes, and the man who asked Figure 01 the question.

OK, a bit uncanny, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before, right? For example, last year, Google showed off how the AI model Gemini could recognize stimuli placed in front of it, from a blue rubber duck to various hand-drawn illustrations (though it was later discovered that slick editing slightly exaggerated its capabilities).

But then, the man asks, “Can I have something to eat?” Figure 01 grabs the apple, clearly recognizing that it’s the only edible object on the table, and hands it to him.

Er, are we sure that Will Smith isn’t going to pop up any time soon?

What, exactly, is underpinning Figure 01’s seamless interaction with a human? It’s a new Visual Language Model (VLM) transforming Figure 01 from a clunky hunk of junk to a sci-fi-esque, futuristic robot that is a little too human-like. After handing over the apple, Figure 01 reveals that it can tackle several tasks at the same time when asked, “Can you explain why you [gave me the apple] while you pick up this trash?”

While recognizing what’s trash (and what’s not) and placing the proper items into what Figure 01 identifies as a bin, the robot explains that it offered the man an apple because it was the only thing in front of him that can be eaten. That’s some impressive multitasking!

Finally, the man asks Figure 01 how well it thinks it did. In a conversational manner, the robot says, “I-I think I did pretty well. The apple found its new owner, the trash is gone, and the tableware is right where it belongs.”

According to Brett Adcock, the founder of Figure, Figure 01 has onboard cameras that feed the VLM data that helps it “understand” the scene in front of it, allowing the robot to smoothly interact with the human in front of it. Alongside Adcock, Figure 01 is the brainchild of several key players from Boston Dynamics, Tesla, Google Deep Mind, and Archer Aviation. 

Taking a dig at Elon Musk’s Optimus robot, Adcock boasted that Figure 01 is not teleoperated. In other words, unlike Optimus, which went viral for folding a shirt, Figure 01 can operate independently.
