Theta Forms as Season’s 29th Named Storm, Breaking a Record

The arrival of Theta broke the annual record for the number of storms strong enough to be given names. That benchmark was set in 2005 (15 5+5+5 years ago), the year Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast.

By Maria Cramer Published Nov. 9, 2020Updated Nov. 10, 2020, 10:39 a.m. ET. New York Times.

Subtropical Storm Theta became the 29th named storm of the tumultuous 2020 hurricane season on Monday night, breaking a record set in 2005.

Government scientists had predicted an unusually busy hurricane season this year. But the number of named storms exceeded even the initial forecasts issued by NOAA, and forced the National Weather Service to resort to using the Greek alphabet after Tropical Storm Wilfred formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean in September.

The Weather Service had not done that since 2005, when 28 storms grew strong enough to have names. (The National Hurricane Center named 27 storms that year and later identified a 28th qualifying storm: a subtropical storm that formed briefly in October 2005 near the Azores, a remote archipelago in the Northeast Atlantic.)

Theta was about 860 miles southwest of the Azores on Tuesday morning and was producing maximum sustained winds of 70 (7) miles per hour, nearing hurricane strength, according to the National Hurricane Center. A Category One hurricane has sustained winds of 74 to 95 m.p.h.

The storm was moving easterly at about 15 (5+5+5) m.p.h. There were no coastal watches or warnings in effect. Subtropical storms share some characteristics with tropical storms, but, according to the Hurricane Center, “are generally cold-core in the upper troposphere, often being associated with an upper-level low or trough.” Theta’s winds of 40 m.p.h. extended up to 140 miles from the storm’s center.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted in May that as many as 19 named storms would form this year. Four months later, the agency updated its outlook and predicted up to 25 (5×5) named storms for the hurricane season, which started June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

“This year has been super active,” said Phil Klotzbach, a research scientist in the department of atmospheric science at Colorado State University. “We’ve seen a tremendous amount of storms.”

Still, scientists cautioned against reading too much into the milestone.

The increased frequency of tropical storms and hurricanes, they said, is not a result of climate change, though climate change can produce more ferocious storms and has led to a rise in sea levels, which can amplify the devastation from flooding and storm surge.

Instead, scientists pointed to other factors that led to the high number of storms: warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, a strong African monsoon season, and reduced wind shear, which means less wind variability at different altitudes that can disrupt storm formation.

What is driving some of those factors, scientists say, is a phenomenon that has led to increased hurricane activity, in general, for more than two decades: long-term cyclic variability in sea-surface temperatures in the North Atlantic. This is known as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, and it has been in a warm phase since the mid-1990s.

In terms of the intensity, duration and frequency of storms (LIKE LABOR PAINS), 2020 does not match the record set in 2005, when eight hurricanes were classified as Category 3 or higher. Three of those hurricanes reached Category 5, a number NOAA described as “unprecedented.” One of those storms, Hurricane Katrina, had weakened to Category 3 status by the time it slammed into the Gulf Coast, devastating much of New Orleans and killing more than 1,500 (5+5+5) people.

This year, two hurricanes — Laura and Delta — reached Category 4 status before landing in Louisiana and Texas, where they caused tremendous destruction. So far this year there have been no Category 5 hurricanes.

“If you just look at the number of storms, it gives you a skewed view of how active it’s been,” Dr. Klotzbach said, referring to the 2020 season.

And in all of the breathless discussion over the record, another important factor has often been overlooked. Technology has significantly improved the ability of hurricane scientists to detect short-lived, weak tropical storms that in the past would not have been identified and given names, said Christopher Landsea, chief of the tropical analysis and forecast branch at the National Hurricane Center.

“When one wants to do a fair comparison of storms now versus storms in the past, you really have to be careful about how to interpret the raw number,” he said. “There has been a lot of hype about the record number of storms and, yes, it’s been a busy year. There have been horrific impacts. But is this really a record? The answer is no.”

In some areas, the destruction from the hurricane season has been devastating.

Five (5) named storms struck Louisiana this year, breaking the record of four that was set in 2002 (18 6+6+6 years ago), according to Dr. Klotzbach.

Hurricane Laura, which hit the southwest corner of the state in September with 150 (5+5+5)-mile-per-hour winds, was one of the most powerful storms on record to make landfall in Louisiana. Six (6) weeks later, Hurricane Delta weakened to a Category 2 by the time it reached land, but still battered towns that were still trying to recover from Laura.

In Westlake, La., a town of about 5,000 (5) people near Lake Charles, Laura’s winds blew off roofs, caused a wall to cave in at City Hall, and snapped 20-foot-tall pines in half, said Robert Hardey, the mayor. Then came Delta.

“We were already beat up, with blue tarps everywhere, and it blew all the tarps away,” he said of the second storm. “There wasn’t one telephone pole standing, there wasn’t one business that didn’t get affected, there wasn’t one house that didn’t get some type of damage.”

Mr. Hardey said he expected it would cost $6 (6) million, nearly half the town’s budget, to clean up the fallen trees and debris left by both storms. He said the federal government told him it would cover 75 percent of the cost, but the town needs more funds or it will go into serious long-term debt.

“I can’t take that hit,” Mr. Hardey said.

The high frequency of storms this year should remind residents and communities in hurricane-prone areas to continue to adapt, as climate change threatens to increase the damage from such storms, said Gary W. Yohe, the Huffington Foundation professor of economics and environmental studies at Wesleyan University.

Rather than rebuild a mall that flooded in a hurricane, for example, a town should consider building a park that can better absorb water from future storms, he said.

“Before you knee-jerk rebuild where you are, think about it for a little bit,” Professor Yohe said. “We don’t know where the next one is going to go, but I know there is going to be a next one. And there is a tendency that they’re getting worse.”

Subtropical Storm “Theta” forms as the record-breaking 29th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season

Posted by Teo Blašković on November 10, 2020 Watchers.news

Subtropical Storm “Theta” formed over the open waters of the Northeast Atlantic Ocean on November 10, 2020, as the record-breaking 29th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. The previous seasonal record for Atlantic named storms was 28 set in 2005.

The Atlantic now has two named storm simultaneously — Eta and Theta. This is the latest in the calendar year that the Atlantic hurricane season has had two named storms simultaneously since November 10, 1932, Dr. Philip Klotzbach, a meteorologist at CSU, said.

The 2020 season now ranks among the top 5 seasons for named storm days, hurricanes and major hurricanes. “It remains somewhat above-average for other metrics,” Klotzbach added.

At 09:00 UTC on November 10, the center of Subtropical Storm “Theta” was located about 1 545 km (960 miles) of the Azores. It had maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h (50 mph) and estimated minimum central pressure of 998 hPa.

Theta was moving E at 19 km/h (12 mph). An eastward to east-northeastward motion across the eastern Atlantic is expected during the next few days.

“Theta has generally changed little during the past several hours. The cyclone has some characteristics of a tropical cyclone, including a central dense overcast and a relatively small radius of maximum wind,” NHC forecaster Cangialosi noted at 09:00 UTC today.

“However, the storm is still entangled with an upper-level trough, and based on all of these factors, Theta is being maintained as a subtropical storm.”

A trough to the north of the subtropical storm is expected to lift out, and Theta should be steered eastward to east-northeastward during the next several days on the north side of a mid-level ridge.

Theta should transition to a tropical storm later today as it separates from the upper-level trough. Little change in intensity is expected during the next several days due to mixed environmental conditions.

“Although Theta will be tracking over progressively cooler SSTs and within moderate wind shear conditions, the air mass is expected to remain unstable, which should be supportive of deep convection.”

Tropical Storm “Vamco” (Ulysses) to rapidly intensify before striking Philippines

Posted by Teo Blašković on November 10, 2020 Watchers.news

Tropical Storm “Vamco” formed on November 9, 2020, as the 22nd named storm of the 2020 Pacific typhoon season. The system entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 12:00 UTC on November 8, receiving the name Ulysses — still as a tropical depression. By 12:00 UTC on November 10, Vamco intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has raised a red alert status in Bicol Region (Region 5).

At 09:00 UTC (17:00 LT) on November 10, Tropical Storm “Vamco” (Ulysses) was located about 930 km (580 miles) east-southeast of Manila, Philippines.

Its maximum 10-minute sustained winds were 85 km/h (50 mph), maximum 1-minute sustained winds 75 km/h (45 mph), with gusts up to 120 km/h (75 mph).

The minimum central barometric pressure was 994 hPa, and the system was moving northwestward at 20 km/h (13 mph).

According to PAGASA, the center of  Vamco is more likely to make landfall over Quezon early Thursday morning, November 12, with a close approach of Catanduanes and Camarines Norte tomorrow afternoon and evening (LT), respectively.

However, a slight southward shift in the orientation of the track forecast shows an increasing likelihood of landfall over Camarines Norte tomorrow afternoon or evening.

Vamco may rapidly intensify into a typhoon by November 11 and reach a peak intensity of 130 to 150 km/h (80 – 93 mph) before the end of the day, PAGASA said.

“Landfall at or near peak intensity is highly likely.”

Areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) #2 — Luzon — will be experiencing damaging gale- to storm-force winds while those under TCWS #1 — Luzon, Visayas — will have a strong breeze to near gale conditions during the passage of the tropical cyclone. Based on the intensity forecast, the highest wind signal to be hoisted during the passage of this storm will be TCWS #3.

Today, November 10, the tail-end of a cold front (shear line) will bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte. Light to moderate with at times heavy rains will also be experienced over Aurora, Quezon, Bicol Region, Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Bangsamoro.

Moderate to heavy rains associated with the rainbands of Vamco will begin affecting Bicol Region, portions of Quezon, and Samar Provinces tomorrow early morning (LT).

Flooding (including flash floods), rain-induced landslides, and sediment-laden streamflows (i.e. lahar) may occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and/or those that received significant antecedent rainfall.

Over the next 48 hours, there is a moderate to high risk of a storm surge of 1 to 2 m (3.3 – 6.6 feet) over the coastal areas of CALABARZON, Aurora, Camarines Provinces, Catanduanes, Albay, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Romblon, and Marinduque, the western coastal area of Masbate including Burias Island, and the northern coastal areas of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro including Lubang Island.

These storm surges, which may be accompanied by swells and breaking waves reaching the coast can cause life-threatening and damaging coastal inundation.

Over the next 24 hours, rough to very rough seas (2.5 to 5 m / 8.2 – 16.4 feet) will be experienced over the entire seaboards of Northern Luzon and the seaboards of Kalayaan Islands due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.

Meanwhile, Vamco will also bring rough to very rough seas (2.5 to 6 m / 8.2 – 19.6 feet) over the seaboards of areas under TCWS and the eastern seaboard of Eastern Samar (that are not under TCWS). Sea travel is risky over these waters, especially for mariners of small seacrafts.

Moderate to rough seas will be experienced over the remaining seaboards of the country. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions, PAGASA said.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has raised a red alert status in the Bicol, still reeling from destruction brought by Super Typhoon “Goni” — locally known as Rolly.

OCD-Bicol regional director, Claudio Yucot, said all response assets and agencies of the Bicol regional disaster risk reduction and management council are already on standby.

A ‘no sail’ policy was implemented for fisherfolks and the pre-emptive evacuation for residents in low-lying and high areas which may be affected by flash floods and landslides, the Manila Bulletin reports.

Yucot advised all local DRRM councils to ‘explore all means of communicating advisories to the communities’ since some areas were still experiencing power interruption and limited mobile and internet connection caused by Super Typhoon “Goni.”

Massive floods sweep through eastern Libya

Posted by Julie Celestial on November 10, 2020 Watchers.news

Major floods swept through Libya’s eastern region after heavy rains struck on Friday, November 6, 2020, resulting in considerable damage to houses, cars, and public infrastructure. About 10 million Libyan dinars or seven (7) million dollars have been allocated to deal with the damages in Al-Bayda municipality. A two-day holiday from Monday to Tuesday, November 9 to 10, was declared as affected areas remain flooded.

Authorities said blocked sewers caused floodwaters to enter houses and public facilities, including a hospital in the city center.

The municipal council declared a two-day official holiday beginning Monday, November 9, as the streets remain inundated. The interior ministry warned citizens and motorists to take caution on public roads.

In a statement on Sunday, November 8, the ministry announced a heightened state of alert in all departments of the National Safety Authority (NSA) and emergency services. Police officials remain on standby in case of emergency and to facilitate traffic movement.

Health Minister Dr. Saad Agoub issued urgent instructions to all emergency departments and health services to provide people with necessary health care.

Meanwhile, the head of the steering council of the Municipality of Tobruk, Faraj Boukhatabia, set up an emergency room– including the municipal guard, social affairs agency, NSA, and Red Crescent to accommodate calls from people.

In Al-Bayda, the presidential council has allocated an amount of 10 million Libyan dinars or 7 million dollars to provide all the urgent requirements to deal with the situation in the municipality.

Night Watchman Note;

US President Donald Trump has predicted that Saudi Arabia will be among up to 10 further countries preparing to ‘normalize’ their relations with Israel.

The meaning was obvious: The country [Saudi Arabia] is tired of waiting for Palestinians to make peace and is preparing to move on. The message to foreign capitals, perhaps to Washington in particular, is equally clear: The time is coming when a deal may be done.

Prophetic Discernment: Two ‘Scenarios’. I am not ‘dogmatic’ about either one. Other scenarios could come into play. THE POINT … is how close we are!

  1. Trump may still yet get the Beast to agree for ‘MENA’ the ‘CURRENT’ plan, SHORTLY, in the few remaining days left in the ‘Last Trump’ or ‘Last Trumpence’ Presidency. Saudis may be ‘nervous’ about the Biden election and want to get the ‘deal done and finished’ while Trump is in the twilight of his presidency.
  2. The Rapture
  3. Biden/Harris may work to ‘ENHANCE’ the plan by the literal splitting of Jerusalem along the 1967 lines. An ‘exchange’ of sovereignty to get a temple for the Jews and to give the Beast custodianship of al-Aqsa … that which he covets. The plan will be ‘ENHANCED’ (investment wise for the Palestinians) for Seven (7) years. Perhaps the investment amount will also be increased.

Or

  1. Rapture
  2. Beast ‘ENHANCES’ the plan under Biden, by splitting Jerusalem along 1967 lines. In a ‘Give up Sovereignty, Get a Temple’ scenario. The plan finally gets ‘CONFIRMED’ or approved shortly, under Biden/Harris (Deceiver-in-Chief and Jezebel-in-Chief).

Either way, the Rapture / Harpazo / Redemption / ‘Twinkling’ is imminent.

Prophecy has a ‘window.’ That window is closing shortly and quickly. As is the door in the ‘Age of Grace’ for the world.

Night Watchman Note; ‘THE GRAND DADDY SIGN’. That is what ‘watchmen or women’ do. Jesus made clear that when He actually does come for His disciples, His wise and faithful servants would be aware of the time because they would be watching. They would know the season of the times by WATCHING those things ‘coming to pass or occurring’ as Jesus said they would. The ‘BENCHMARK SIGN(s)’ always point towards Israel / Jacob. God’s prophetic timepiece. The FALSE PEACE COVENANT confirmed by the Prince/Beast among MENA (the many) is the ‘key sign’ of the times or the season of the times. Yes, we are in that period. The Prince/Beast will likely confirm and enhance the current ‘normalization’ agreement with Jacob to be a ‘peace’ agreement, to be extended to 7 years from the current 5 years, to include some agreement permitting the rebuilding of the third temple in exchange for ‘some portion of Jerusalem.’ The current ‘investment’ period for the Palestinians stands at five (5) years. This will likely occur AFTER the Bride, Disciples or True Church is removed from the earth via the Rapture / Harpazo / Redemption / ‘Twinkling’.

Make Your Decision for Christ NOW!!!!!!! Time is Up!!!!!!!

Jesus Christ’s Offer of Salvation:

The ABCs of Salvation through Jesus Christ (the Lamb)

A. Admit/Acknowledge/Accept that you are sinner. Ask God’s forgiveness and repent of your sins.

. . . “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

. . . “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8).

B. Believe Jesus is Lord. Believe that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be; that He was both fully God and fully man and that we are saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. Put your trust in Him as your only hope of salvation. Become a son or daughter of God by receiving Christ.

. . . “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15-17). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

C. Call upon His name, Confess with your heart and with your lips that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.

. . . “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (John 1:8-10).

. . . “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (John 2:2).

. . . “In this was manifested the love of god toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:9, 14-15).

. . . “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:8-10).

. . . “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

. . . “Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).

. . . “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 1:16).

. . . “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts: 4:12).

. . . “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).

. . . “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).

. . . “But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12).

True Church / Bride of Christ Spared from God’s Wrath:

Romans 5:8-10. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”

Romans 12:19. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1:10. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 5:9. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Romans 8:35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Jeremiah 30:7. Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
