Increasingly Perilous and Dangerous Times, November 2019: Dutch state not obliged to take back Islamic State children: appeals court. A lower court earlier this month had said the government must actively help repatriate over 55 (5) children living in poor conditions in camps in Syria. All the children have Dutch nationality and are under 12 (6+6) years old. Most are younger than six (6). The women and children concerned are living in very poor conditions which could rapidly deteriorate as winter arrives.

Some 25 (5×5) British women and more than 60 (6) of their children have been stranded in the country’s northeast since fleeing the Isis caliphate in its final days earlier this year. Most of them are under the age of five (5), meaning they would probably have been born in Isis territory.

Increasingly Perilous and Dangerous Times, November 2019: Syria Kurds say they repatriated five (5) people. US child, (3) German children and their mother. Spiegel magazine named the mother as Laura H., 30, and said she and her children had been living in the overcrowded Al-Hol camp for the displaced in northeastern Syria. Germany had already brought home a handful of orphans. Six (6) countries; Austria, France and Belgium have also repatriated some orphaned children. Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kosovo have all repatriated dozens of women and children. The United States has repatriated several women and their children.

Increasingly Perilous and Dangerous Times, November 2019: Cyprus rescues 120 (6+6) Syrian migrants. Including 20 (5+5+5+5) children, 15 (5+5+5) of them unaccompanied minors, and three (3) women. Those on board said they had paid $4,000 each for the journey to the smugglers. Cyprus requested that fellow European Union member states take in 5,000 (5) of its migrants to alleviate the “disproportionate pressures” it faced. The backlog of applications has increased to 15,000 (5+5+5).
