DEADLY ‘SLOTH FEVER’ VIRUS FROM BRAZIL CONFIRMED IN MULTIPLE CONTINENTS. THERE ARE NO VACCINES OR SPECIFIC THERAPIES AVAILABLE OR IN DEVELOPMENT.
Story by Howard Lloyd & Emily Hodgkin IRISH STAR August 11, 2024
Growing fears are emerging over a potential widespread outbreak of a lethal Brazilian virus, following confirmed instances in Europe. Dubbed ‘sloth fever’, Oropouche is TRANSMITTED TO HUMANS VIA BITES FROM MIDGES OR MOSQUITOES.
Whilst most individuals infected with Oropouche fever experience mild symptoms such as headaches, muscle aches, nausea, and rashes, it can occasionally lead to severe conditions like meningitis and encephalitis, which can be fatal. Moreover, there are indications that infection during pregnancy may result in miscarriage, termination and/or developmental issues, along with deformities in the fetus.
Now, cases have surfaced in Italy, with The Lancet reporting that two individuals hospitalised after visiting Cuba exhibited disease symptoms.
A 26-year-old woman was confirmed to have contracted the virus after displaying fever and diarrhoea post-visit to the Ciego de Avila province in Cuba, journeying back to Verona on May 26. In addition, symptoms began to manifest in a 45-year-old man subsequent to his summer travels to Havana and Santiago de Cuba.
After seeking medical attention on June 7 in Fori, northern Italy, he was treated. Furthermore, The Lancet has indicated reports of cases in Spain, speculating a connection to travel to Cuba.
Concerns were voiced by Dr Danny Altmann, a Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London, who expressed alarm to the Telegraph: “We should definitely be worried,” he declared. “Things are changing and may become unstoppable.”
Despite half a million cases of Oropouche fever being recorded since the virus was discovered, THERE IS STILL VERY LIMITED KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE DISEASE, according to The Lancet.
THIS COMES AS BRAZIL REPORTS THE FIRST FATALITIES FROM THE VIRUS WORLDWIDE, WITH TWO YOUNG WOMEN SUCCUMBING TO THE ILLNESS. THE VICTIMS, AGED 21 AND 24, EXPERIENCED SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN, BLEEDING, AND HYPOTENSION before tragically passing away on July 25.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is advising individuals to take measures to reduce their risk of insect bites. This includes: “The use of repellent in accordance with the instructions indicated on the product label, wearing long-sleeved shirts and long trousers and using insecticide-treated fine mesh mosquito bed nets when resting.”
“These measures are essential to provide protection against bites in rooms that are not adequately screened (with fine-mesh screens on doors and windows) or air-conditioned, and during outdoor activities.”
Pregnant women travelling to infected areas are also being advised to reconsider their trip and remain cautious in such areas. The Lancet predicts that more cases will be reported ‘in other areas’ due to travellers contracting the illness.
“Unfortunately, THERE ARE NO VACCINES OR SPECIFIC THERAPIES AVAILABLE OR IN DEVELOPMENT,” the publication states. “Typical control interventions for vector-borne diseases such as insect repellents and mosquito nets might not be optimal to slow the spread of Oropouche virus: midges are very small and can pass through nets and they might be less affected by commonly used insect repellents.”
“However, chemical insecticides such as deltamethrin and N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide have been demonstrated to be effective in controlling Culicoides and Culex species.”

WHY A GROWING MPOX OUTBREAK HAS THE WORLD WORRIED AGAIN
Story by Fenit Nirappil Washington Post, August 9,2024

Global health authorities are sounding an alarm about surging mpox infections in Africa that have left hundreds dead, thousands sick and inflicted suffering in nations previously spared from the viral disease.
Cases in Africa have surpassed 15,000 this year, exceeding the toll in all of 2023. Infections are concentrated in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where mpox has been endemic for decades, reaching record highs and infecting and killing mostly children. The virus has spilled into countries that have never recorded outbreaks, including Kenya and the Ivory Coast.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will probably declare a health emergency next week, officials said Thursday. The leader of the World Health Organization said Wednesday that he would convene a committee to consider declaring another international health emergency. Meanwhile, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released an alert this week warning clinicians to be vigilant for symptoms in travelers from affected countries while stressing that the risk remains low in the United States.
“This is a major alarm for the world. We are losing the youth in Africa,” Jean Kaseya, director general of the Africa CDC, said in a Thursday news briefing. “This new incident demonstrates the need for a collective and collaborative approach in curbing the spread of the disease.”
In 2022, a global mpox outbreak ripped through gay communities in dozens of countries that had rarely encountered the virus and prompted an aggressive public health response and vaccination campaign that were credited with quashing the outbreak.
Recent trends in Congo, where the virus was first detected in 1970, have ignited new concerns. This year, officials have recorded 13,800 suspected and confirmed cases and 450 deaths, with children younger than 15 accounting for 68 percent of cases and 85 percent of deaths, according to the Africa CDC.
Most infections appear to be spreading through contact with infected animals and within households, the usual routes of exposure in endemic regions. But a new form of mpox, known as clade 1b, emerged in eastern parts of Congo, including in sex workers, and has been detected in Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.
Clade 1b causes more severe illness than the clade 2 version that spread globally in 2022. But the death rate is low, with the new version of mpox killing fewer than 1 percent of people who became infected, according to the CDC.
“That said, it is of concern because it’s spreading sexually so it makes it more of a risk versus in small villages and small households,” said Christina L. Hutson, chief of the CDC’s poxvirus and rabies branch.
Clade 1, the forerunner of the new version, proves more lethal, with a death rate of about 5.5 percent in the Congo province where it predominates, disease experts said. The higher death rate could be explained by that outbreak disproportionately striking vulnerable children in an area with a weak health-care system, the experts cautioned.
While the global outbreak in 2022 was largely driven by male-to-male sexual contact, officials in Africa are identifying spread in heterosexual networks as well, including when male travelers solicit female sex workers in parts of Congo close to other countries.
“Sexual transmission in areas where there is a great deal of population movement is particularly worrisome given the implications for rapid spread,” said Anne Rimoin, an epidemiologist who runs a research camp in Congo and has studied the virus there for more than two decades. “Mpox is transmitted very efficiently through sexual contact.”
The virus spreads in Africa in ways not typically seen in the West, including in health-care settings where workers have less access to personal protective equipment while treating patients and inside smaller households where people live in tighter spaces. Outbreaks also have been recorded in displacement camps in conflict-ridden areas.
While the threat to Western countries is considered low, the African countries bearing the brunt of the latest outbreak do not have ample supplies of vaccine and antivirals that helped end the international health emergency last year.
“Let’s be frank: The global south has always faced massive resource limitations, and that is certainly no different here,” said Jason Kindrachuk, an associate professor at the University of Manitoba’s Max Rady College of Medicine who is in Congo assisting the response.
Vaccine distribution presents a logistical nightmare in Congo and other parts of Africa where the health-care system is stretched thin and where some heavily affected rural communities can be reached only by boat. But efforts to expand vaccination are finally gaining steam.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he took steps to accelerate vaccine access in lower-income countries where regulators have yet to approve the vaccine and to allow international aid organizations to buy shots for distribution.
The U.S. CDC is working with Congolese officials to develop a plan for targeting people most at risk for mpox and rolling out shots in phases once the country approves a vaccine. Rimoin said that campaign could start as early as fall.
“An infection anywhere is potentially an infection everywhere, and this is exactly what we saw with mpox in 2022,” said Rimoin, who is also a professor of epidemiology at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. “It’s a critical moment to act quickly, to be vigilant and with no time to lose.”
Here Comes The Fear: The WHO Warns That The New Mutant Strain Of Monkeypox Is An Emergency “For The Entire Globe”
| Michael Snyder Aug 15 |

It was fun while it lasted. We actually had quite a few months without an official “global health emergency” to be concerned about, but now that streak is over. On Wednesday, the World Health Organization announced that Monkeypox has officially been classified as a “public health emergency of international concern”. Health officials have lost control of the new mutant strain that is spreading in Africa, and so that is why this move was made. Compared to the strain that caused so much chaos in 2022, this new strain has a much higher death rate and we are being told that in many cases it is spreading without any sexual contact at all. If this thing gets loose in the United States and Europe, the level of fear that we will witness will be off the charts.
For now, the only confirmed cases of this new mutant strain of Monkeypox are all in central Africa.
But it is probably only a matter of time before it spreads to more areas.
The head of the committee that determined that a “public health emergency of international concern” was warranted says that this new strain is an emergency “for the entire globe”…
Committee Chair Professor Dimie Ogoina said, “The current upsurge of mpox in parts of Africa, along with the spread of a new sexually transmissible strain of the monkeypox virus, is an emergency, not only for Africa, but for the entire globe. Mpox, originating in Africa, was neglected there, and later caused a global outbreak in 2022. It is time to act decisively to prevent history from repeating itself.”
Originally, all of the confirmed cases of the “clade 1b” strain were limited to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
But now more than 100 cases have been confirmed in the neighboring countries of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda…
In the past month, over 100 laboratory-confirmed cases of clade 1b have been reported in four countries neighbouring the DRC that have not reported mpox before: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. Experts believe the true number of cases to be higher as a large proportion of clinically compatible cases have not been tested.
The strategy of containment has officially failed.
At this point, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is openly admitting that “the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond is very worrying”…
“The detection and rapid spread of a new clade of mpox in eastern DRC, its detection in neighboring countries that had not previously reported mpox, and the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond is very worrying,” Tedros said during the briefing.
So what do we know about this new strain?
Well, first of all we are being told that it has a much higher death rate…
The strain of mpox spreading now (clade I) is more serious than the type we saw two years ago (clade II), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains. Clade I spreads more easily and could kill up to 10% of people who contract it. On the other hand, more than 99% of people who caught the clade II version in 2022 survived.
Secondly, it appears that it is much easier to spread than the strain that quickly circulated all over the planet in 2022…
During the global outbreak of mpox in 2022, gay and bisexual men made up the vast majority of cases and the virus was mostly spread through close contact, including sex. But with this outbreak in Congo, a majority of cases and deaths are in children. The reasons for the difference aren’t entirely clear. It could be because kids are more susceptible, said Dr. Boghuma Titanji, an infectious diseases expert at Emory University. Social factors, like overcrowding and exposure to parents who caught the disease, could also be at play.
Already, I am seeing so many people on the Internet spreading false information about this new strain.
es, this new strain can spread via sexual contact.
But it is being reported that it can also spread without any sexual contact at all…
It began spreading through sexual transmission, via the local sex work industry, according to the researchers. However, they said the new virus has also spread within households, between mothers and their children, and there have even been cases of person-to-person spread outside households and without sexual contact.
That’s “incredibly worrying,” Lang said. That’s because it has more opportunities to spread than previous strains did.
If what we are being told is true, this could be really bad.
Previously, as long as people avoided certain types of sexual activity, they could feel safe.
But now that is apparently no longer the case.
According to one expert, this new strain is “undoubtedly the most dangerous of all the known strains”…
The new virus is “undoubtedly the most dangerous of all the known strains of mpox,” John Claude Udahemuka, a lecturer at the University of Rwanda, said in a press briefing on June 25. He said the virus has caused miscarriages and blindness.
Ultimately, I don’t know if Monkeypox will become a major global problem in the months ahead of not.
But if it doesn’t take off, the WHO has identified a whole bunch of other diseases that could spark the next great global pandemic.
In fact, the WHO now has a total of 37 different diseases on its list of “priority pathogens”…
Lassa Fever
Argentine Hemorrhagic Fever
Cholera
Plague
Shigellosis
Salmonella
Pneumoniae
MERS; Middle East Respiratory Virus
SARS; Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
Ebola
Marburg virus
Zika virus
Dengue fever
Yellow fever
Tick-borne encephalitis
West Nile Virus
Hantavirus
Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever
Bird flu (H1 to H10)
Swine flu (H1 to H3)
Nipah virus
SFTS Fever
Rift Valley Fever
Smallpox
Pox virus
Monkeypox
Chikungunya virus
Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis
Pathogen X
Adenovirus
Adenovirus 14
Hand, foot and mouth
Lentivirus
Borna disease virus
Hepatitis C
Hepatitis E
HerpesHPVParvovirus
For decades, we all lived our lives without any concern that the next great global pandemic could be just around the corner.
Sadly, those days are gone.
We have all seen what fear of a pandemic that had a very low death rate did to the entire globe, and it is just a matter of time before much more serious pandemics come along.
In laboratories all over the world, scientists are purposely trying to make some of the deadliest diseases that we have ever known even more deadly.
Our ability to create “super diseases” now far exceeds our ability to control them, and it is inevitable that millions will die as a result of our recklessness.

Psalm 2:12: “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” John 3:36: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
The formula is simple: if you reject the Son, you will receive the wrath.
Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and UNDERSTAND THAT I AM HE: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isaiah 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore THEY SHALL KNOW IN THAT DAY THAT I AM HE THAT DOTH SPEAK: BEHOLD, IT IS I.
