RIYADH: The president of the Saudi Human Rights Commission (HRC) said on Thursday that the KINGDOM REMAINED COMMITTED TO ATTAINING THE HIGHEST INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS IN PROTECTING AND PROMOTING HUMAN RIGHTS, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Tuwaijri ‘s remarks came at the UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL IN GENEVA during Saudi Arabia’s participation in a session to adopt the results of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review mechanism.
Leading the Kingdom’s delegation at the session, Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the GOVERNMENT’S EXTENSIVE COOPERATION WITH THE REVIEW MECHANISM, WHICH IS A CRUCIAL TOOL FOR THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL TO ENHANCE HUMAN RIGHTS GLOBALLY.
SHE STRESSED THAT PRINCIPLES SUCH AS EQUALITY, DIALOGUE, COOPERATION, NEUTRALITY, OBJECTIVITY, AND TRANSPARENCY SHOULD FORM THE FOUNDATION FOR ANY COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS BETWEEN STATES IN THE REALM OF HUMAN RIGHTS.
She also noted that Saudi Arabia’s acceptance of over 80 percent of the recommendations from the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review demonstrated its GENUINE DEDICATION TO HUMAN RIGHTS.
Al-TUWAIJRI OUTLINED THE SIGNIFICANT REFORMS AND ADVANCEMENTS IN HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE KINGDOM, EMPHASIZING THAT MORE THAN 150 LEGISLATIVE, INSTITUTIONAL, JUDICIAL, AND PROCEDURAL REFORMS HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED SINCE THE ADOPTION OF SAUDI VISION 2030.

These reforms were consistent with international standards and founded on the principle that humans should be the focal point, subject, and beneficiaries of development.

Saudi dissidents and activists from all over the diaspora came together for an in-person conference to discuss the elusive prospects of a representative government in Saudi Arabia chosen by its citizens. The Quest for Democracy in Saudi Arabia conference is the culmination of a year-long organising effort by several organisations under the banner of the “People’s Vision”, with the goal of setting a path toward ending authoritarian rule in the country.
“It is an unprecedented gathering of experts, activists, policymakers, international organisations, and think tank stakeholders. All in order to discuss one topic: authoritarianism in Saudi Arabia,” said the director for countering authoritarianism at the Middle East Democracy Center in Washington DC, and an organiser of the conference. “This gathering helps to assure a new phase of our work on countering the authoritarian practices of the Saudi government.” The launch of the “People’s Vision”, an initiative and set of policy reforms created by Saudi activists, academics and intellectuals, ADDRESSED A RESPONSE TO THE VISION 2030 AGENDA PUT FORWARD BY SAUDI CROWN PRINCE MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN.
We’re gathered with more and more Saudi activists and people who are fed up with the government’s policies, or those who have fled the country and they don’t consider themselves as dissidents, but who want to change the country for the better. All the while, the REPRESSION OF SAUDI DISSIDENTS – – CONTINUES BOTH DOMESTICALLY AND ABROAD. A report last year found that 66.6% OF THE PEOPLE INTERVIEWED WITH PERSONAL OR PROFESSIONAL TIES TO SAUDI ARABIA HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO ACTS OF REPRESSION ON US SOIL.
EXAMPLES OF THIS TRANSNATIONAL REPRESSION INCLUDE DENIALS OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS, SURVEILLANCE, AND PHYSICAL INTIMIDATION. Many of the conferences participants who themselves are dissidents and have imprisoned relatives at home in Saudi Arabia. The conference largely focused on the most pertinent issues facing the ongoing repression of activists and critics inside Saudi Arabia. “Part of what the dictators of the past and those in the present do is they tighten their grip on society, thinking that they can silence you, intimidate you, and stop you from organising,” Alaoudh said.The end goal of a democratic Saudi Arabia is achieved, “we will solve everything else, INCLUDING ARRESTS, CIVIL SOCIETY CRACKDOWNS, AND ALL OF THESE TECHNIQUES THE SAUDI GOVERNMENT HAS EMBARKED ON SINCE MBS CAME TO POWER”.
SAUDI ARABIA PUTS SEVEN MEN TO DEATH IN LARGEST EXECUTION IN YEARS, PUNISHING ACTIVISTS AND PROTESTERS UNDER GUISE OF TERRORISM
Seven Saudi men were executed on Tuesday, the highest number put to death in one day since 81 were killed in March 2022.
MbS has now executed 31 people this year, after putting at least 172 people to death in 2023, rights groups monitoring executions in Saudi Arabia have said. These men were tried, convicted, sentenced and executed in complete secrecy. Those executed in 2024 include 10 men convicted of terrorism charges by the SCC, which has been criticised for punishing activists and protesters.
The official announcement lists EXECUTIONS AS TERRORISM CASES, THAT DEFINITION HAS BEEN USED TO INCLUDE CHILDREN WHO JOINED PROTESTS, CRITICS OF THE REGIME AND PEOPLE WHO MERELY DISAGREED PUBLICLY WITH MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN. It is the highest number of people put to death in the kingdom since March 2022, a year in which the kingdom carried out more executions than any other country besides China and Iran, according to Amnesty International.
SAUDI AUTHORITIES ARE EXECUTING PRISONERS EN MASSE AGAIN, CLOSE TO THE TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE WORST MASS EXECUTION IN THE KINGDOM’S HISTORY. Everyone involved should know that just by being in Saudi Arabia and turning a blind eye to mass executions, they are making further killings more likely and offering international legitimacy to a deeply repressive regime.
