Strong M6.3 earthquake hits Izu Islands – third M6+ in 3 days, Japan
Mexico, Afghanistan, and Papua New Guinea were hit by powerful earthquakes almost three hours apart on October 7. Knewz.com has learned that in Mexico, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the country at 6 PM ET, with the quake originating in the town of Matias Romero in the southern state of Oaxaca.
Strong movements were felt across Oaxaca and even as far as Mexico City, some 227 miles away. The quake triggered seismic alarms in Mexico City, forcing residents to evacuate their homes and seek safety in the streets.
Senior regional government official, Jesus Romero, reported there were no deaths, but that the tremors caused damage to stretches of a highway leading to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, a narrow strip of land that separates the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
The city of Oaxaca also suffered damage, with a hospital reporting cracked walls and power outages.
Shortly after, Afghanistan was struck by a 5.6 magnitude earthquake around 1:30 AM ET. The quake hit the city of Herat, 25 miles to its northwest.
Aftershocks followed with Richter Scale readings of 5.5, 4.7, 6.3, and 5.9. Residents and shopkeepers fled buildings in fear. At the time of writing, there were 15 reported dead and 78 injured, per The Guardian.
Crowds of women and children gathered in the wide streets of Herat, away from tall buildings, in search of safety from the aftershocks.
According to the Daily Mail, the World Health Organization has already sent medicine and supplies to Afghanistan to assist those affected by the earthquake.
Hours later, a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck northeastern Papua New Guinea.
The epicenter was said to be about 35 miles southeast of the town of Madang. Luckily, there were no reports of damage or casualties.
An aftershock of equal magnitude hit the coast of Madang shortly after the initial quake.
Earthquakes are common in Papua New Guinea but rarely cause widespread damage due to the sparse population outside of major towns and cities.
These three earthquakes follow a devastating quake that struck Morocco a month ago, killing around 3,000 people and injuring 5,600.
The 6.8 magnitude earthquake damaged approximately 60,000 homes across 3,000 villages in the High Atlas mountains and surrounding areas.
Survivors of the disaster are still living in tents and relying on a field hospital and temporary schools set up by the authorities.
ReliefWeb quoted a Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies official remarks on Morroco‘s displaced citizens:
“The earthquake has devastated thousands of families, exposing them to harsh conditions. Our teams are working tirelessly, but the scale of the need is overwhelming, particularly as winter is closing in on the High Atlas Mountains. Time is of the essence. We are racing against the clock to provide insulated shelters and winter essentials.”
Just weeks after Morocco’s disaster, Egyptians felt the ground beneath their feet move. Fortunately for the North African country, it was but a minor event that only measured 4.4 in magnitude.
At least 15 (5+5+5) dead, dozens more injured after a duo of 6.3 magnitude earthquakes in Afghanistan. There was an aftershock with a 5.5 magnitude.
OCTOBER 7, 2023 / 12:11 PM / AP CBSNEWS
Two 6.3 magnitude earthquakes killed at least 15 and injured nearly 40 others in western Afghanistan on Saturday, said a spokesperson for the country’s national disaster authority.
Mohammad Abdullah Jan said four villages in the Zenda Jan district in Herat province bore the brunt of the quakes and aftershocks. Dozens of houses have been damaged.
The United States Geological Survey reported the 6.3 magnitude tremblors. It said the epicenter was 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) northwest of Herat city. There was an aftershock with a 5.5 magnitude.
A map on the USGS website indicates seven earthquakes in the area. At least five powerful earthquakes struck the city around noon, Herat city resident Abdul Shakor Samadi said.
“All people are out of their homes,” Samadi said. “Houses, offices and shops are all empty and there are fears of more earthquakes. My family and I were inside our home, I felt the quake.” His family began shouting and ran outside, afraid to return indoors.
The World Health Organization in Afghanistan said it dispatched 12 ambulance cars to Zenda Jan to evacuate casualties to hospitals.
“As deaths & casualties from the earthquake continue to be reported, teams are in hospitals assisting treatment of wounded & assessing additional needs,” the U.N. agency said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “WHO-supported ambulances are transporting those affected, most of them women and children.”
Telephone connections went down in Herat, making it hard to get details from affected areas. Videos on social media showed hundreds of people in the streets outside their homes and offices in Herat city.
Herat province borders Iran. The quake also was felt in the nearby Afghan provinces of Farah and Badghis, according to local media reports.
Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban-appointed deputy prime minister for economic affairs, expressed his condolences to the dead and injured in Herat and Badghis.
In June 2022, a powerful earthquake struck a rugged, mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan, flattening stone and mud-brick homes. The quake was Afghanistan’s deadliest in two decades, killing at least 1,000 (5+5) people and injuring about 1,500 (5+5+5).
5.9 magnitude earthquake hits southern Mexico

While strong shaking was experienced in Oaxaca`s capital, seismic alarms were triggered in Mexico City, prompting residents to take to the streets, although the majority of areas did not feel significant shaking.
Hawaii’s rumbling Kīlauea volcano produces over 300 earthquakes in 24 hours, officials say
Jillian Sykes, CNN Sat, October 7, 2023 at 3:38 AM CDT
Increased seismic activity from one of Hawaii’s – and Earth’s – most active volcanoes led to roughly 320 earthquakes in 24 hours, according to the United States Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
The reported earthquakes beneath the highest point of Kīlauea, which is not erupting as of Friday, began Wednesday as the volcano started showing signs of elevated unrest, according to a USGS news release.
Most of the earthquakes came from the ongoing seismic swarm in a region south of Kilauea’s summit caldera at depths of up to 2 miles beneath the surface, the observatory reported.
Officials said “significant hazards” remained around Halemaʻumaʻu, including “crater wall instability, ground cracking and rockfalls that can be enhanced by earthquakes” in an area closed off from the public.
Inflation, or ground surface swelling, at the summit of Kīlauea has nearly returned to the level seen shortly before the last eruption on September 10, when the volcano erupted for the first time in nearly three months, the USGS said.
A livestream on Friday from the USGS showed small streams of smoke seeping up from the volcano’s Halemaʻumaʻu crater.
While there are no reported eruptions, officials warned of potentially hazardous levels of volcanic gas in downwind areas and rockfalls enhanced by earthquakes.
Sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide levels can remain locally hazardous even though Kīlauea is not erupting, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
The frequency of earthquakes in the area had decreased by Friday at 6 a.m. local time, but officials said seismicity is still considered to be elevated.
Because of the seismic activity and inflation at the summit, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has temporarily closed some trails, viewing areas and parking lots, the National Park Service said Friday.
Kīlauea’s eruption on September 10 ended after six days and “was the briefest of the five eruptions that have occurred at the summit of Kīlauea since 2020,” the USGS said.
Prior to the September eruption, Hawaii’s youngest volcano briefly erupted in June, emitting lava fountain bursts up to 200 feet high, CNN previously reported.
CNN’s Melissa Alonso, Raja Razek, Nouran Salahieh and Ashley R. Williams contributed to this report.
Twin M6.7 earthquakes hit Papua New Guinea
Saturday, October 7, 2023 The Watchers
Two strong earthquakes registered by the USGS as M6.7 hit the eastern New Guinea region of Papua New Guinea on October 7, 2023. The first quake struck at 08:34 UTC at a depth of 54 km (33 miles) and the second at 08:40 UTC at a depth of 74 km (46 miles). EMSC is reporting two M6.7 earthquakes at depths of 67 km (42 miles) and 57 km (35 miles).
The epicenters were located 56.8 km (35.3 miles) SE of Madang (population 27 419), 98.6 km (61.3 miles) ENE of Goroka (population 18 503), and 157.5 km (97.9 miles) NW of Lae (population 76 255), Papua New Guinea.
Strong and shallow M6.2 earthquake hits Nepal, leaving homes destroyed, 18 (6+6+6) injured or missing.
Tuesday, October 3, 2023
A strong and shallow earthquake registered by India’s National Center for Seismology (NCS) as M6.2 hit Nepal at 09:21 UTC (15:06 local time) on October 3, 2023. The agency is reporting a depth of 5 km (3.1 miles). USGS and EMSC are reporting M5.7 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles).
According to the NCS, the quake was preceded by M4.6 and followed by M3.6, M3.1, M3.5, M4.3, M3.9 and M3.0 by 14:00 UTC.
The epicenter was located 38.7 km (24.1 miles) NE of Dipayal (population 23 416), 65.8 km (40.9 miles) ENE of Dadeldhurā (population 19 014), and 72.9 km (45.3 miles) ENE of Dārchulā (population 18 317), Sudurpashchim Pradesh, Nepal.
The area is seismically very active and associated with collisional tectonics where the Indian plate
subducts beneath the Eurasian Plate, NCS said.
The event was well recorded by more than 60 broadband seismic stations installed by the NCS. The analysis of seismic data shows that the events occurred on North Almora Thrust (NAT) which provides a very apt location for triggering the mainshock due to appreciable structural heterogeneity in and around the mainshock.
The preliminary fault plane solution derived from moment tensor inversion suggests a thrust fault. The earthquake was located 50 km (31 miles) NNE of the recent M6.3 earthquake on November 9, 2022.
Maximum Intensity of VI (MMI scale) was reported in the epicentral region.
The recorded earthquakes as per the EQ Catalogue of NCS reveal that the region is associated with moderate to large earthquakes with varying magnitudes in the last 13 years. In addition to the above, it is noteworthy that prior to the mainshock, there were three prominent events recorded on November 9, 2022 (M6.3), January 24, 2023 (M5.8) and February 22, 2023 (M4.4) occurred within 50 km3 (19 mi3) of today events which were also felt with slight to moderate intensity in Delhi-NCR and others neighboring states.
The occurrence of earthquakes in the region is attributed mainly to the tectonic settings of the Himalayas comprising Himalayan Frontal Thrust (HFT), Main Boundary Thrust (MBT), and Main Central Thrust (MCT) besides several local faults and geological demarcated lineaments.
According to the USGS PAGER, 1 000 people are estimated to have felt very strong shaking, 83 000 strong, and 158 000 moderate.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage
Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are highly vulnerable to earthquake shaking, though some resistant structures exist. The predominant vulnerable building types are adobe block and unreinforced brick with mud construction.
Recent earthquakes in this area have caused secondary hazards such as landslides that might have contributed to losses.
The quakes injured at least 17 people, damaged homes and triggered a landslide in the district of Bajhang that blocked a major highway, officials reported. Some homes in Chainpur, a town in the district, collapsed.
The landslide blocked the road to the southern plains. A woman is missing after being engulfed by the landslide, police official Dipesh Chaudhary said.

Officials discuss evacuation scheme around Campi Flegrei supervolcano following recent earthquakes, Italy
Friday, October 6, 2023Updated onFriday, October 6, 2023 14:15 UTC The Watchers
The Italian government is exploring the potential evacuation of tens of thousands of residents living near the Campi Flegrei supervolcano, 20 km (12.5 miles) from Naples, following over 1 100 earthquakes in the area within a month. The announcement was made on Thursday, October 5, 2023, and further measures are set to be discussed in a cabinet meeting.
The Italian cabinet is set to discuss a series of new measures designed to ensure the safety of the more than 500 000 residents in towns and villages surrounding the Campi Flegrei supervolcano. The measures include building assessments, following months of seismic activity that has featured over 1 100 earthquakes, with the strongest registering a magnitude of 4.2. This was the most powerful earthquake in the region in the last 40 years.
Experts attribute the heightened seismic activity to a geological phenomenon known as bradyseism. This is characterized by a cyclical rise or fall in the Earth’s surface due to the filling or emptying of underground magma chambers. Currently, the ground around Campi Flegrei is rising by 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) per month, sparking concerns about the structural integrity of local buildings.
Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci stated that evacuations would be initiated only in cases of “extreme necessity.” Additional resources are expected to be allocated to local civil protection agencies to ensure rapid intervention in emergencies. A communication campaign aimed at raising public awareness about the situation is also in the planning stages.
Local media have reported that starting from Friday, a group of area hospitals will commence evacuation tests. This development comes as part of a broader strategy to prepare for stronger earthquakes or potential volcanic eruptions.
Mauro Di Vito, Director of the INGV Vesuvian Observatory, recently stated that the situation is under constant monitoring. Geophysical and geochemical parameters suggest that the ongoing dynamics, including soil lifting at a speed of around 15 mm (0.6 inches) per month, show no significant changes compared to previous data. “At present, there are no elements that suggest significant evolutions of the system in the short term,” Di Vito said.
Campi Flegrei is a 13 km (8 miles) wide caldera that encompasses part of Naples (population 3 million) and extends to the south beneath the Gulf of Pozzuoli.
The area has a history of intense volcanic and seismic activity. Episodes of bradyseism—slow ground movement—accompanied by seismic swarms have been observed in the past, particularly during 1969 – 72 and 1982 – 84 (during which around 40 000 people were temporarily evacuated from the nearby town of Pozzuoli). More recently, ground uplift in the Rione Terra area reached approximately 113 cm (44 inches) by July 2023.
The supervolcano’s last major eruption occurred in 1538 (VEI 3), but its most devastating eruption took place approximately 39 000 years ago. This ancient event is believed by some researchers to have potentially led to the extinction of Neanderthal man and even dispersed magma as far as 4 500 km (2,796 miles), reaching Greenland.

But how can (7) they call on him (Jesus Christ) to save (7) them unless they believe in Him (Jesus Christ)? (7) And how can they believe in Him (7) (Jesus Christ) if they have never heard about (7) Him (Jesus Christ)? And how can they hear (7) about Him (Jesus Christ) unless someone tells them?” Romans 10:14 (777777)

Make Your (7) Decision for Christ NOW!!!!!!! Time is Up!!!!!!!
Jesus Christ’s Offer of Salvation:
The ABCs (7) of Salvation through Jesus Christ (the Lamb)
A. (7) Admit/Acknowledge/Accept that you are sinner. Ask (7) God’s forgiveness and repent of your sins.
. . . “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
. . . “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).
. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8).
B. Believe Jesus is Lord. Believe that (7) Jesus Christ is who He claimed to (7) be; that He was both fully God (7) and fully man and that we are (7) saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. (7) Put your trust in Him as your (7) only hope of salvation. Become a son (7) or daughter of God by receiving Christ. (7777777) 7×7
. . . “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15-17). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
C. Call upon His name, Confess (7) with your heart and with your lips (7) that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.
. . . “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10).
. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (John 1:8-10).
. . . “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (John 2:2).
. . . “In this was manifested the love of god toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:9, 14-15).
. . . “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:8-10).
. . . “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).
. . . “Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).
. . . “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 1:16).
. . . “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts: 4:12).
. . . “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).
. . . “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).
. . . “But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12).
