False Prophet: Revelation 13:11-17. (The world’s most ‘trusted social influencer.’)
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
The “Document on Human Fraternity” blurs the distinction and changes the meaning of fraternity, extending it to the relationships between peoples of different religions, as if Muslims and Christians are “brothers and sisters” praying to the same God.
Roman Catholicism legitimizes prayers to other deities or religious ideals, silencing the prophetic message of Scripture that we either serve the biblical God or idols. It fails to bear witness to the claims of Jesus Christ as the God-man who came to save those who believe in him, and instead changes the meaning of fraternity by stretching it indiscriminately to all humanity, rather than believers in Jesus only. In so doing, the tenets of the biblical faith are trampled on.
This is a further move away from biblical Christianity. Not being anchored in Scripture alone, not being committed to Christ alone, Roman Catholicism is anxious to extend its ever-expanding catholicity (i.e. all-encompassing embracement) in all directions, even those clearly contrary to the basics of the Christian faith.
Revelation 17:1-9. Mystery Religion in Babylon (NEOM). False religion. NEOM is the great city of many peoples and false (non-Christian) religions that sits on seven (7) mountains which is the center of spiritual humanism, abominations, fornications, blasphemies and filthiness. Religious coexistence and acceptance of all non-Christian religions, the brotherhood, fraternity of cultural inclusivity, secular peace, tolerance, rejection of extremism, religious dialogue, social goals, ecology and salvation by human efforts and agreements. A demonic mix of compromised, false Christianity (Catholicism) with moderate Islam that accepts other false religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, Humanism, (‘isms’). Everything but the true worship and acknowledgement of Christ and his offer of salvation through the shedding of his blood on the cross, and his forgiveness of our sins through his death and resurrection. Christ is completely ignored and rejected in the religious soup-from-hell or the mystery religion that is served in the great end-times restaurant known as Babylon (NEOM). False prophet proclaims “ALL religions are willed by God.”
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever
Seven-fold Reference to the Beast’s Mark/Name/Number Required by the False Prophet:

(Emphasis added).
Commentary: The false prophet causes those who dwell on the earth to do a lot of bad things. The beast/antichrist uses marks to identify those who belong to his evil kingdom. The mark of the beast is physically apparent on the forehead or right hand of his citizens. What this mark will look like is a matter of debate and conjecture. It could be a stamp using non-removable die, a tattoo, or even a physical blemish that results from genetic manipulation. Cattle are often marked or branded by their ranchers or owners for identification. The process of cattle branding uses extremely hot fire to heat up a metal die or stamp (at the end of a long metal pole). The metal stamp is heated until the point of being red hot (glowing), or hot enough to burn a mark, initials or emblem into the leathery, thick skin of the cattle. This leaves a mark deep enough, that the cattle cannot outgrow the rancher’s mark of ownership. They permanently belong to him, until they are sold and slaughtered. By the beast/antichrist using a mark to identify his ownership of unredeemed souls, he views them as cattle…ready for the slaughterhouse of hell. The marking of unredeemed souls compares very differently to the seals or sealing used by God on those redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. (Rev. 3:12, 7:3-4, 7:5-8, 14:1).
Historically, a seal was placed by a king on a document to authenticate the document’s origin and ownership. In many cases, wax would be heated to the point of melting and dripped onto the document’s edges. As the wax was drying, the king would use a signet ring or royal stamp to put his initials, mark, or royal crest (emblem) into the wax. As long as the seal was not broken, the person receiving the official document, sealed and in tact, immediately knew who sent the document and that it was not tampered with. The recipient could then be assured of the document’s authenticity and accuracy. God applies his seal of ownership to redeemed souls, through Jesus Christ. We have a royal seal of the spirit as opposed to the physical marking characterized by the antichrist. We have been spared a bloody slaughtering, as Christ was already bloodily slaughered on the cross for our behalf. By contrast, the cattle owned by the antichrist/beast will experience a bloody slaughtering at Armeggedon. (Rev. 14:20 … “blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hudred furlongs). The mark of the antichrist/beast indicates the corrupted physical and spiritual image of those he owns, whereas, the seal of God, through Jesus Christ, indicates our imager status as belonging to God and of being citizens of heaven and the New Jersusalem.
I would rather have the loving, royal seal of God, given to us by Christ, in my heart and head…than to have an ugly, stamp forced or burned onto my forehead or hand. Once again, in his Revelation to John, the Apostle, Jesus mentions seven (7) times that the mark of the beast will lead to eternal damnation. He cares enough about all of us, to keep repeating himself and reminding us, over and over. Unfortunately, there will be millions (or billions) who ignore or don’t care about his warnings and offer of salvation. The beast/antichrist forces his mark on souls, whereas Jesus, gives us his mark. He doesn’t force himself on anyone who doesn’t’ want to be identified with him or his kingdom. Just as Jesus indicates what happens to “those who take the mark of the beast” (white throne judgement, lake of fire), He also indicates what happens to “those who do not take the mark of the beast”. We are victorious, live and reign with Christ for one thousand years, have harps of God, stand on a sea of glass, sit on thrones. What a contrast in eternal existence!
Seven-fold Evils of the False Prophet:

And he exerciseth all the power of first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. …. “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom, Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of man; and his number is Six hundred three-score and six.” (Rev. 13:16-18). (Emphasis added).
- Exercises all the demonic power of the antichrist. (Rev. 13:12)
- Causes people on the earth to worship the beast/antichrist. (Rev. 13:12)
- Deceives those on earth by false miracles or wonders, but is only able to do these when the antichrist is present. (Rev. 13:13-14)
- Requires people on earth to build an image of the beast/antichrist. (Rev. 13:14)
- Gives false life to the man-made image enabling it to speak. (Rev. 13:15)
- Forces all people to receive the antichrist’s mark of ownership in their forehead or right hand, forces buying and selling to be contingent upon having this mark. Causes the martyrdom of those not willing to worship the beast or his image. (Rev. 13:15-17)
- Causes people on earth to worship the beast’s image. (Rev. 13:15)
Commentary: The False Prophet is the Antichrist’s ‘right hand’ man, propaganda minister, and #1 religious cheerleader, in an all-in-one package. A yes man of the most evil sort. Adolf Hitler had very similar people operating in this capacity during his evil attempt to enslave the world. The False Prophet will be demonically or satanically inspired to perform the deceit and false miracles that lead the weak-minded and spiritually dead to falsely worship the beast/antichrist. Interestingly, the False Prophet can only conduct these false miracles when he is in sight/proximity to the beast. This indicates that Satan’s power is not omnipresent, but can only be conveyed to a willing participant within close proximity to Satan. Whereas God’s power is unlimited by time and space, Satan’s power is not and is strictly limited. Just as Hitler forced the Jews to take a tattoo or mark of the Star of David, for identification, so too will the beast/antichrist force citizens to take his mark for identification. Additionally, Hitler forced Jews to have a number tattooed on them in concentration camps, for more detailed recognition and identification. Scripture continues to tell us that the Antichrist/Beast will also force the number of his name to be forced onto people. Impossible you say? See my detailed analysis of the Sevenfold Markings by the Beast/Antichrist. The False Prophet is also the ringleader to get men to make a false image(s) of the beast and to have men worship it. Impossible you think? Read my detailed analysis on the Sevenfold Image of the Beast. The False Prophet is the enabler of spiritual fornication on a global, worldwide scale all with the endorsement, approval, sanctioning and blessing from the Beast. Satan gives the False Prophet enough power, through the beast/antichrist, to ensure this satanic abomination is accomplished.
Vaccination Mark of the Beast System:
(Five (5); Digital ID, Vaccination Passport, Biometric Scanning, ‘Mark’ or ‘code/number’ of Approval or Authorization, 5G Technology/Network.)
The ‘coming’ mark will most likely involve a ‘subdermal’ application of the next wave of vaccinations, that will include a form of ‘digital data memory’ indicating date and time of vaccination. This ‘mark’ of vaccination will involve a sub-dermal outline or image representing a ‘branding’ that can be scanned and revealed by ultra-violet light at a retail checkout point scanner. Just as many people have a physical vaccination ‘mark’ on their arm from getting shots in the 1960s, the coming vaccination mark will be subtle and reside ‘inside’ the human body affecting and indicating a genomic change in the recipient. This is an abomination viewed by God and causes the recipient to lose ‘Imager Status Before God’ and results in eternal damnation. The vaccination ‘mark’ has to be easily accessible by scanners and retail checkout points, hence the recipient will have the option of receiving the vaccination ‘patch’ either on their hand or forehead for ‘scannability.’ The patch or medium itself ‘dissolves’ on the exterior of the skin, as the vaccination and information is administered or delivered under the skin. Some technology is currently under development that will possibly allow for the recipient’s health status and response to the vaccine to be ‘scanned’ and ‘verified’ or ‘validated’ at retail or social checkpoints. The purpose of which is to identify whether or not the vaccine has actually worked (and is working) on the recipient’s body / immune system / genetics / RNA / DNA, in addition to informing authorities as to date, time, dosage and manufacturer of said ‘medicine.’
Revelation 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had NOT worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
5G + Biometric Facial / Hand Scanning + Digital / Cashless Transactions + Mark of Approval / Authorization = Tomorrow’s Economy (2020-2027). Why 2020? Because these ‘things’ have already occurred (past tense) elsewhere (China, India, Asia and a few countries in Europe) in the world in 2020, even though they have not yet occurred in the ‘United’ States.
Biometric scanning used for migrant/border control, secure identity verification and approval, government benefits, domestic and international travel security, economic inclusion of everyone, buying/selling transactions and fund transfers, instantaneous speed of transaction and convenience, VAT/taxation collection, mobility, social credit score and ranking, population movement and tracking, monitoring political and religious ‘extremism’ (terrorists). ‘Mark, number or name’ for verification and approval.
‘Any foreign material(s) should NOT be injected into the human body that causes any kind of change in genetic makeup or structure of a human being. This could be five (5) genetic ‘manipulation’, ‘enhancement’, ‘cutting’, ‘modification’, or ‘alteration.’
And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. [Symptom or result from having ‘received’ the mark, a result from having changed or damaged a person’s RNA, DNA, Immune System or Genetics?].
Both American vaccines use messenger RNA (mRNA) to combat the virus. That is an advanced genetic therapy that uses the virus’ own genetic material against it. Kendrick, however, warns that the technology isreally new and untested, meaning no one really knows how it could affect human health, since it literally hijacks the cellular reproduction mechanism. “We really do not know what these things might end up doing after a prolonged period of time.”
“The plague year of 2020 will be remembered as the time when these traditional vaccines were supplanted by something fundamentally new: genetic vaccines, which deliver a gene or piece of genetic code into human cells. The genetic instructions then cause the cells to produce, on their own, safe components of the target virus in order to stimulate the patient’s immune system.”
‘The MARK’ may not be here just yet, but it will be shortly … in terms of either months or a year or two. Verification that a ‘genetic manipulation’ has been administered and will be evident, either on the hand or forehead by biometric scanning to enable travel, buying and selling. Do you still ‘want to take’ the jab even if it is not yet administered on your hand or forehead in some other manner? If you are curious, please read my other analyses on ‘why’ getting ‘the mark’ is such a bad (understatement) thing in the eyes of God. It is one thing to understand that people in the extremely near future should NOT GET THE MARK. It is another thing to UNDERSTAND WHY THEY SHOULD NOT GET A MARK. This is not a ‘conspiracy theory,’ but the Word of God. I have provided the requisite verses from the Bible, regarding God’s comments about ‘the mark’ of the coming world beast system.
NO ‘MICROCHIP’ NEEDED. Implantable Quantum Dot Microneedle Vaccine Delivery System: A Quick Overview.
MIT researchers have now developed a novel way to record a patient’s vaccination history: storing the data in a pattern of dye, invisible to the naked eye, that is delivered under the skin at the same time as the vaccine. This technology could enable the rapid and anonymous detection of patient vaccination history. The researchers showed that their new dye, which consists of nanocrystals called quantum dots, can remain for at least five (5) years under the skin, where it emits near-infrared light that can be detected by a specially equipped smartphone. To create an “on-patient,” decentralized medical record, the researchers developed a new type of copper-based quantum dots, which emit light in the near-infrared spectrum. The dots are only about 4 nanometers in diameter, but they are encapsulated in biocompatible microparticles that form spheres about 20 microns in diameter. This encapsulation allows the dye to remain in place, under the skin, after being injected. The researchers designed their dye to be delivered by a microneedle ‘patch’ rather than a traditional syringe and needle. Such patches are now being developed to deliver vaccines for measles, rubella, and other diseases, and the researchers showed that their dye could be easily incorporated into these patches. The microneedles used in this study are made from a mixture of dissolvable sugar and a polymer called PVA, as well as the quantum-dot dye and the vaccine. When the patch is applied to the skin, the microneedles, which are 1.5 millimeters long, partially dissolve, releasing their payload within about two minutes.
By selectively loading microparticles into microneedles, the patches deliver a pattern in the skin that is invisible to the naked eye but can be scanned with a smartphone that has the infrared filter removed. The patch can be customized to imprint different patterns that correspond to the type of vaccine delivered. “It’s possible that this ‘invisible’ approach could create new possibilities for data storage, biosensing, and vaccine applications that could improve how medical care is provided, particularly in the developing world,” Langer says.
The quantum-dot patterns could be detected by smartphone cameras after up to five (5) years of simulated sun exposure. The researchers are also working on expanding the amount of data that can be encoded in a single pattern, allowing them to include information such as the date of vaccine administration and the lot number of the vaccine batch. “Storage, access, and control of medical records is an important topic with many possible approaches.” “This study presents a novel approach where the medical record is stored and controlled by the patient within the patient’s skin in a minimally invasive and elegant way.” The research was funded by the [Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation] and the Koch Institute Support (core) Grant from the National Cancer Institute.
ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT; Inside Pope Francis’ mission to make capitalism work for the ‘common good.’
John W. Miller January 27, 2021 AmericaMagazine.org
Editor’s Note: The Moral Economy is a new series that tackles key economic topics through the prism of Catholic social teaching and its care for the dignity of every person. This is the first article in the series.
The Vatican has always enchanted princes and presidents, but Pope Francis is the first leader in the Catholic Church’s 2,000-year history to engage frequently with a more modern type of ruler: chief executive officers.
More than any previous pontiff, Francis has been lobbied by C.E.O.s to soften his skepticism about capitalism, and he in turn has pressed them to better serve the poor and the planet. Surprisingly, he has joined the debate now in fashion about reforming capitalism, a discussion propelled by the 2008 financial crisis, rising income inequality and climate change. The list of companies whose leaders have made a pilgrimage to Rome reads like a Harvard Business Review index: Apple, Bank of America, BlackRock, Exxon, Facebook, Google, McKinsey and News Corp, to name only a few. The Vatican has also met with pension fund managers to help them invest more ethically, worked on redesigning the curricula of business schools at Catholic universities, and organized roundtables at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The Fortune 500’s (5) dance with the Vatican underscores the difficulty of turning the ideal of economic dignity for every human, a cornerstone of Catholic thought, into reality. Any earnest attempt at “reform” risks turning into a glorified public relations campaign. It also raises the question of how much good a church devoted to caring for the poor can do by working with the rich. Of course, the pope and Vatican officials also meet frequently with the poor and the marginalized. But with the global economy shaken by the Covid-19 pandemic, the emergence of a deeper relationship between the Vatican and the Davos crowd demonstrates Francis’ moral currency in a world struggling to find meaning, the church’s grudging but growing respect for the influence of multinational corporations and the emergence of Catholic social teaching as a promising common ground.
Catholic social teaching is also something Americans are learning a lot more about. The new administration of President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a Catholic, is packed with Catholics; and one early proposal, for a $15 (5+5+5) an hour minimum wage, is the kind of change Pope Francis wants.
The economy is as sick as the planet. The world’s biggest corporations, and their middle- and upper-class investors, made more money than ever in the last decade, but more people were thrown out of work last year than at any other time since the 1930s. The Covid-19 work-from-home economy has crushed small businesses while juicing profits for big tech and big retail. Amazon and Walmart “earned an extra $11 (‘warning’) billion over last year’s profits during (and largely because of) the pandemic,” according to a report by the Brookings Institute.
Income inequality has skyrocketed, priming the pump for populist politicians. The move of factory jobs offshore has ravaged thousands of small towns in the United States and Europe. And automation may destroy another 375 million jobs around the world by 2030. “If corporate America doesn’t change on time, we’re headed for a crash,” said the Rev. Martin Schlag, author of The Business Francis Means: Understanding the Pope’s Message on the Economy.
American C.E.O.s have declared their openness to reform. In 2019, over 180 (6+6+6) members of the Business Roundtable, a lobby group of corporations in the United States, changed their definition of the purpose of a corporation to creating value for “all of our stakeholders,” including customers, employees and communities, instead of focusing exclusively on generating profits for shareholders. The latter had been the consensus, more or less, since the economist Milton Friedman popularized the virtue of profits in a famous 1970 New York Times essay, “The Social Responsibility of Business Is to Increase Its Profits.”
The Business Roundtable’s shift, whether intended or not, nudged it, on paper at least, closer to the teachings of the church. Starting with Pope Leo XIII in the late 19th century, the church has argued for the rights and needs of all workers, while acknowledging a limited right to private property.
The latest incarnation of this argument, in Pope Francis’ recent encyclical “Fratelli Tutti,” addresses our lost sense of local identity, how social media networks divide us and the corrosive effects of focusing only on profits. The pope also calls “business abilities” a “gift from God” but adds that they should be “directed to the development of others and to eliminate poverty” by creating “diversified work opportunities.”
Stakeholder (as opposed to shareholder) capitalism is “basically Catholic social teaching,” said Séamus Finn, O.M.I., a former chair of the board of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, a New York–based coalition that includes pension fund managers, faith-based investors and faith-based institutions like the Catholic Health Association of the United States, the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, and the Marianist Province of the United States. “It’s saying you’re in business to take care of your employees, provide goods or services to your customers, and take care” of communities and the environment, said Father Finn, who is known as a go-between for C.E.O.s who want to visit the Vatican.
Still, there are limits to what recent efforts to reform capitalism can accomplish. It is good for the Vatican to “engage the powerful, but you also need to tackle the structural issues” of capitalism, especially the way the market dehumanizes people by disconnecting consumers from the impact of their choices, said Vincent J. Miller, author of Consuming Religion: Christian Faith and Practice in a Consumer Culture. In other words, buying fair-trade coffee from Amazon is no help if the delivery driver earns poverty-level wages.
“People high up in the corporate world are good people, but they are subject to the tyranny of the stock market, and God help them if they miss their profit goals,” said Chris Lowney, a former Jesuit who worked at JPMorgan Chase and is the author of a book about applying Jesuit principles to business, Heroic Leadership: Best Practices From a 450-Year-Old Company That Changed the World.
Francis as Model ‘Chief Executive’ (False Prophet)
To be sure, there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical about Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and fellow bishops of capitalism flocking to Rome. Francis offers the world’s most prestigious photo op: a charismatic spiritual leader, a celebrity and the ultimate virtue signal. For many bosses, Francis is even one of them, a figure of almost macho envy. “I’m not Catholic, but I’m fascinated by his leadership abilities, how he communicates so effectively with billions of people,” the C.E.O. of a firm with $30 billion a year in revenues and over 100,000 workers told me at an off-record dinner with Wall Street Journal reporters and editors. (The world’s ‘greatest and most trusted social influence.’)
But there are also reasons to hope that Pope Francis is doing more than P.R. Church teaching attempts to bridge the gap between spiritual and secular, and some believe it can offer a useful third way that combines the economic freedom favored by libertarians and the focus on justice advocated by socialists.
The Holy See’s sharpened focus on business is a recognition of the fact that C.E.O.s are among the rulers of the Anthropocene era. Almost all the world’s eight billion people now use products made by companies run by Fortune 500 C.E.O.s. You can eat sushi in Kansas City, drive a Tesla in Moscow and check Facebook in Antarctica. It is modern capitalism that is to be thanked for our cornucopia—and blamed for many of our problems.
One of the Vatican’s recent engagements underscores some of the challenges of preaching to the boardroom. In December, the Council for Inclusive Capitalism announced “a historic new partnership” between business leaders and the Vatican. In Rome, the point person is Cardinal Peter Turkson, a champion of healthier economic ‘models.’
The council is an alliance of 27 (3x3x3) firms that includes Visa, Mastercard, Merck, BP and Bank of America, worth over $2.1 trillion of market capitalization and employing 200 million workers in over 160 countries. To join, a firm must commit itself to making changes, by, for example, paying workers better, hiring minorities or protecting the environment. The promises are not binding, and there is no deadline to implement them.
“An economic system that is fair, trustworthy, and capable of addressing the most profound challenges facing humanity and our planet is urgently needed,” Pope Francis told the group.
Pope Francis “isn’t a partner for capitalism, but he wants to harness its power for good,” said the council’s founder, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, C.E.O. of E. L. Rothschild, a multinational holding company whose properties include The Economist. Ms. De Rothschild said she wrote the pope a letter requesting help in 2016.
In Rome, Vatican officials have welcomed the dialogue, but they see themselves as accompanying C.E.O.s as pastors, in the same way they accompany the sick and the poor, rather than “partnering” with them. There is some skepticism about the council’s marketing of itself as “with the Vatican,” and a fear that corporations are more interested in P.R. than in the dignity of every human— and that both sides might be misreading each other. “They think they are lobbying us, and we think we are evangelizing them,” said a Vatican official.
In the end, Pope Francis’ dream is probably about change that is more structural and long-lasting than what corporations are offering. He is skeptical about capitalism’s promise of perpetual economic growth. “There’s nothing in nature that grows forever,” the official said. “Can an elite of the powerful really redesign a system that is providing their own wealth?”
Turning Idealism Into Practice
For now, however, capitalism is the system we live in, and transforming idealism into practice is a serious challenge. “When you’re a C.E.O., no matter how well-intentioned you are, there’s always pressure from Wall Street to produce profits,” said Dan Hesse, the chief executive of Sprint between 2007 and 2014 and now a board member of PNC Bank. But C.E.O.s should “remember that shareholders can come and go easily” because they don’t share the same long-term commitments as workers and communities, said Mr. Hesse, who calls himself “pro-Catholic and an outspoken capitalist.” What business leaders can do, he said, “is create a culture where employees are valued and have a purpose.”
To nudge companies to behave more ethically, Mr. Hesse and Ms. de Rothschild have both advised Just Capital, a New York–based nonprofit that ranks companies based on how they treat their workers, communities and environment. The top of the list is heavy with tech firms like Microsoft and Apple.
“If the past year has taught us anything, it’s allowed us to understand why you should pay people more and give them sick leave,” said Alison Omens, chief strategy officer at Just Capital.
In Just Capital’s rankings, one of the companies getting poor marks for treating workers is the biggest employer in the United States, Walmart, the epitome of the global corporation built on free trade, low-wage labor and maximizing profits. It has declined to join the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, but its investors, clients and suppliers include many of the council’s members. And its chief executive, Doug McMillon, is currently chairman of the reform-minded Business Roundtable. Although Walmart has improved its record on the environment and racial equality, its compensation of workers illustrates how hard it is for companies to make structural changes.
Walmart was “pleased to have hired [over 500,000 workers] during the course of this year, globally, as so many of them need to work,” Mr. McMillon said on a call with analysts in November, adding that the company had “increased wages for around 165,000 associates.”
But while Walmart’s profits and stock price have soared, and Mr. McMillon took home over $20 million in 2020, the company still underpays many of the two million workers at its 11,500 stores. One of them is Drew Board, a 23-year-old “online fulfillment associate” at a Walmart in Albemarle, N.C. Mr. Board makes $13.22 an hour, or $26,000 a year working 40 hours a week filling orders for online customers. That income is barely enough to cover living expenses for him and his girlfriend. Their rent is $850 a month.
There is no union for Mr. Board to join, but he is a member of United for Respect, a nonprofit and movement of workers fighting for better pay and fair treatment at retailers like Walmart and Amazon.
Mr. Board, who has an associate’s degree in office administration, took the job because “Walmart was the [one] to call me back after graduation, and the job market around here isn’t that great anymore,” he said.
For tens of millions of Americans, a job like Mr. Board’s is full-time work—though limited to wages under $15 an hour and with little opportunity for advancement. These workers are the so-called working poor, representing a massive, and cruel, downgrade of American middle-class life. As U.S. companies have automated and become more efficient in the last 40 years, they have increased productivity, but real wage gains have gone mostly to the top tier of American workers.
Raising wages for workers like Mr. Board is a goal of every effort to reform capitalism. In “Fratelli Tutti,” Francis calls an “obsession with reducing” labor costs a “way of discarding others.”
In the modern business world, however, it is difficult for companies to change practices that are profitable for them, even essential for their survival. Without low wages, Walmart could not offer its “Everyday low prices,” which it calls “the cornerstone of our strategy.”
I asked Mr. Board how Mr. McMillon’s professed good will toward workers had manifested itself. He said he got a $300 Covid-19 bonus from the company ($220 after taxes) but was denied a request for hazard pay. Walmart did not return a request for comment.
I asked Ms. de Rothschild how the council’s work with Pope Francis might help workers like Mr. Board. “We can’t be depending on just one C.E.O. to do the right thing,” she said. “We need to change the culture, and we can’t keep having a situation where the stock market is roaring and you have the worst inequality since the 1880s.”
Where Pope Francis really helps, she said, is by offering a common meeting point that emphasizes reality and results, and a moral authority unique in the world. “In our group, we have Buddhists, Jews, Sikhs and some Catholics,” she said, “but everybody agrees we need to give capitalism a basic moral foundation.”

Jesus Christ’s Offer of Salvation:
The ABCs of Salvation through Jesus Christ (the Lamb)
A. Admit/Acknowledge/Accept that you are sinner. Ask God’s forgiveness and repent of your sins.
. . . “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).
. . . “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).
. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8).
B. Believe Jesus is Lord. Believe that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be; that He was both fully God and fully man and that we are saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. Put your trust in Him as your only hope of salvation. Become a son or daughter of God by receiving Christ.
. . . “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15-17). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
C. Call upon His name, Confess with your heart and with your lips that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.
. . . “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10).
. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (John 1:8-10).
. . . “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (John 2:2).
. . . “In this was manifested the love of god toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:9, 14-15).
. . . “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:8-10).
. . . “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).
. . . “Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).
. . . “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 1:16).
. . . “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts: 4:12).
. . . “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).
. . . “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).
. . . “But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12).

Romans 5:8-10. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
