A destructive earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale is expected to hit Israel and its surrounding neighbors in the coming years, causing hundreds of deaths, a new study led by researchers from Tel Aviv University has found.

For the study, carried out under the auspices of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) and published in the Science Advances journal, a rig was placed in 2010 in the center of the Dead Sea, which began drilling to a depth of hundreds of meters, enabling an analysis of some 220,000 years of Dead-Sea geology by studying the seabed.

The researchers revealed a cyclical pattern, since such devastating earthquakes seem to be hitting the region every 130 to 150 years – but there have been cases in history where the period of time between one earthquake and another was only a few decades long.

According to Prof. Shmuel Marco, head of the Porter School of Environmental and Earth Sciences at Tel Aviv University, because the Dead Sea is the lowest place on earth, the flood waters that flow into the Dead Sea every winter carry with them sediment that stratifies at the bottom of the lake into different layers, with every two layers representing a different year.

As soon as an earthquake occurs, the sediments swirl together, with the layers that had previously settled in perfect sequence blending into one another and resettling in a different arrangement.

The researchers developed specific equations and computational models to analyze these findings and were then able to both understand the physics of the process and to reconstruct from the geological record the history of earthquakes over time, highlighting that their frequency in the Dead Sea valley is not fixed over time.

In the wake of these findings – and given that the last one that hit the region was 93 years ago – the researchers predict that another earthquake should hit the region in the near future: in the coming years or decades, they said.

The last earthquake of such magnitude was felt in the Dead Sea valley in 1927, causing injuries to hundreds of people and damage to several main cities, including Jordan’s capital Amman, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Jaffa.

“According to the latest earthquake, which is the best indicator we have, about 250 people were killed in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Amman and Jericho,” Marco said.

“So if we compare it to the number of people inhabiting these cities today, 100 years later, the population has grown by about two to three times,” he said. “This means the number of casualties will be two to three times as much, not to mention the massive damages to infrastructure and property.

“I don’t want to cause alarm,” concluded Marco, “but we are living in a tectonically active period. The geological record does not lie – and a major earthquake in Israel will come. Of course, we have no way of predicting exactly when the earth will shake under our feet – this is a statistical projection – but unfortunately, I can say that an earthquake that will cause hundreds of casualties will hit in the coming years.

“It could be in ten years or in several decades – but it could also be next week,” he warned, “and we need to constantly be prepared for that.”

The research was carried out by an international team of researchers, including Marco and his fellow researchers Dr. Yin Lu (postdoc at TAU), Prof. Amotz Agnon (Hebrew University), Dr. Nicolas Waldmann (Haifa University), Dr. Nadav Wetzler (Israel Geological Survey) and Dr. Glenn Biasi (US Geological Survey).

Israel simulates an earthquake, with casualties at 7,000 people

By Ayo August 19, 2019

Last year, I wrote an article titled A Great Earthquake that focused on two articles that talked about a possible devastating future earthquake in Israel that could leave 7,000 people dead, seemingly mirroring Revelation 11:13 of a great earthquake that will kill 7,000 people.

An article by The Times of Israel on August 12th, 2019 reported on one of the largest Israeli naval exercises, dubbed “Mighty Waves 2019”. The simulation brought together representatives from 10 other nations as well as NATO, “The United States, France, and Greece fully participated in the exercise, sending ships and personnel to Haifa to take part in drills alongside their Israeli counterparts. Representatives from Cyprus, Chile, Italy, Germany, Canada, the United Kingdom and NATO observed and took part in non-physical aspects of the drill.”

It was also the nation’s first exercise solely dedicated to earthquake response, “The naval drill had two main goals: to practice setting up a “sea gate,’ through which the majority of the humanitarian aid Israel would need in the aftermath of a massive earthquake would pass, and, more generally, to learn how to more efficiently work with the various national and international organizations that would be involved in the disaster relief work.”

The article cited that part of the reason for the earthquake exercise was due to the fact that Israel currently lies on the Syrian-African rift. The last major earthquake in the region occurred in 1927 “a 6.2-magnitude tremor that killed 500 (5) people and injured 700 (7)”.

The specific type of earthquake they were simulating was a “7.5-magnitude quake striking the Beit Shean Valley in northern Israel, killing 7,000 (7) people, injuring thousands more, damaging hundreds of buildings and leaving over 150,000 (5+5+5) homeless”.

A Great Earthquake

As stated earlier in the article, this isn’t the first time the number 7,000 has been mentioned when talking about the casualties that may result in a devastating earthquake in Israel. In an article titled After tremors, experts warn a huge quake is the greatest threat facing Israel posted by The Times of Israel last year they stated, “Col. Itzik Bar from the IDF’s Home Front Command, put expected casualties from a major quake at 7,000 dead and 200,000 homeless”.

Similarly an article posted by The Jerusalem Times last July titled, Comptroller: Israel is not ready for a Major Earthquake gave a similar warning, “The State Comptroller’s Office stated that according to information received by the government, the situation it needs to prepare for could result in an estimated 7,000 people killed, another 8,600 seriously injured, 37,000 lightly injured, 9,500 trapped in rubble and 170,000 left homeless”.

Below are 3 more sources I discovered while doing some extra research for this article that gives the same numbers.

The Guardian, Israel earthquake could kill 7,000, disaster forecasts claim (October 25th, 2013) – “An estimated 7,000 people could be killed, tens of thousands injured and a further 200,000 left homeless if a powerful earthquake struck Israel, a government minister has warned following six separate tremors over the past week.”

Haaretz, Israel Is Hundreds of Years Overdue for a Massive Earthquake (February 13th, 2019) – Here are more statistics: “Once every 1,000 years, Israel is shaken by a quake bad enough to leave 70,000 (7) people homeless and could kill several thousand. And once every 2,500 years, we can expect a quake that leaves 200,000 homeless and could kill at least 7,000 (7) people, estimate the statisticians.”

Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), Israel feels ramifications of 4.8 magnitude earthquake (May 16th, 2019) – “In 2016, the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee’s Home Front Readiness Subcommittee estimated that a 7.5 magnitude earthquake would kill 7,000 people, injure another 8,600 and leave 377,000 homeless, causing approximately NIS 200 billion ($56 billion) in damages.”

My goal for this article is to communicate the fact that this is not a coincidence. This recent article makes 6 articles now that have given the same figures. It would be one thing if all 6 articles gave varying estimates for the casualties but instead what we’re seeing is all the articles are getting the same number of 7,000 people killed while also reporting on various estimates for those injured and homeless.

For example the Times of Israel’s latest article lists the injured as “thousands” and the homeless at 150,000. Their article from 2018 gives an estimate of those homeless at 200,000, while Haaretz’ article written early this year gives an estimate of 70,000 people homeless.

The Jerusalem Post’s article also written in 2018 gives an estimate to the number injured at a combined figure of 18,100 and 170,000 left homeless while the JNS’ article puts the number of injured at 8,600 and homeless at 377,000. Despite some of these fluctuating estimates, all 6 somehow get to the same conclusion that 7,000 people dead from such an earthquake is a possible figure.

In my opinion there could be 2 causes for the various estimates we’re seeing:

Different sources were used for the various estimates leading to varying numbers.

The same source was used but the estimates were updated as time progressed and more information was acquired.

Despite these 2 scenarios, the question still remains as to why after more than six (6) years we still see the number 7,000 killed across varying news sources. Let me repeat myself when I say this isn’t a coincidence.

A Closer look at Revelation 11:13

As stated in the beginning of the article, we see that all 6 articles give a number of 7,000 people dead which mirrors what the bible tells us in Revelation 11:13 to the exact number. So now we can see the exact same message both in the bible and 6 separate news sources listing the same casualty count for an earthquake, but some questions many may have is how do we know the bible is telling us this will occur in Israel? Couldn’t this just be a generic prophecy we’re just re-interpreting into our time period?

In my article Examining Prophecy: The Two Witnesses, I breakdown Revelation 11:1-14. I assess at it as many skeptics see the bible – as just a historical work. I will reference some familiar points from the article here, but I encourage you to go through the article yourself for an in-depth look and specifics. There’s some facts I believe we need to understand regarding what’s written in Revelation 11 regarding these two witnesses and the earthquake that follows them.

The book of Revelation was written in the late 1st century AD

The author of the book is believed to be John the Apostle

The author – John – claims his revelations originates from a divine source outside of human understanding; an angel who was sent by Jesus

Around 6 events are prophesied to occur before the actual earthquake, including the fact that they will preach for 1,260 days exactly, they will be killed after the 1,260 days, their bodies will lie on the street for 3 1/2 days exactly, and during this 3 1/2 day period people all over the world will see their bodies and send gifts to each other

John states that the bodies of the two witnesses will “lie in the street of the great city… where also our Lord was crucified.” (Revelation 11:8)

Jesus was crucified outside Jerusalem at a place called Golgotha. Although the exact location is disputed today, the location of said dispute centers around Jerusalem, Israel and whether it was inside or outside city walls.

Did you catch all of that? Whether you believe the bible to be God’s Word or you believe the bible is a book of fairy tales, the fact remains that the book of Revelation was written almost 2,000 years ago, and that the author claimed during a future 7 year period of time – known as the tribulation – after a series of specific events concerning specific people in a specific location during a specific duration of time, an earthquake will occur 3 1/2 years into the tribulation and kill 7,000 people. He also claimed this earthquake will occur where Jesus was crucified – Jerusalem, Israel.

Again, the point I want to drive home is that this is not a coincidence. The main question I want to leave you with is, is this just a big coincidence that what was written almost 2,000 years ago, that talks about an earthquake that will occur in Israel and kill exactly 7,000 people is seemingly confirmed to be possible in the near future by 6 different articles?

If John was incorrect about the source of his writings and it instead originated from a human source, then logically his attempt at making a claim of a earthquake in the distant future in a specific area of the world, killing an exact number of people, would be doomed to failure.

However, despite these facts how is it possible we’re seeing not just similarities but the exact number (7,000 people killed) in the exact location (Israel) of the alleged future earthquake? What are the odds that an author of an ancient text that claims to get his “revelations” from a divine source wrote about an exact number of people that will be killed in some future terrible earthquake and it’s now in our current day that this is seen in our headlines?

“Things Which Must Shortly Take Place”

After briefly examining John’s claim that he received his information from a divine source we can see that it’s simply not possible for a finite human being to provide specific information for future events (people, location, actions, numbers, duration of time) and for it to come to pass or seemingly be lining up without the aid of something beyond human nature and comprehension.

To the Christian, the complexity and specifics that makes up this prophecy along with the numerous confirmations we’re getting outside of the Bible shows us that this is more than a historically significant book, but rather God’s word. To the skeptic that still believes this may be nothing more than coincidences Christians are reading too much in to, I leave you with several questions:

If the book of Revelation, at the most, only holds historic/religious value but isn’t from a supernatural source as some claim, how was John able to write about an earthquake that specifically occurs in Israel, and kills 7,000 people to the number despite this being written almost 2,000 years ago? Also, keep in mind the 6 above articles that state an earthquake in Israel that will kill the same number of people.

Is it a coincidence that not just one, but 6 articles all state 7,000 people are likely to be killed by this earthquake in Israel matching what’s written in Revelation 11:13?

At the end of the day, this information concerning the future earthquake in Israel is important because it shows us how close the tribulation period is, and even closer, the rapture of the church. It’s a warning to those who have yet put their trust in Christ and a signpost to those eagerly waiting for his return. If this earthquake occurs 3 1/2 through the 7 year tribulation, and we’re already seeing articles regarding an earthquake in Israel that could kill 7,000 people, then logically how close are we? I challenge you to consider what’s been presented in this article.

For the believer in Christ, these are amazing times we’re living in as we see the world stage being set up just as the bible says it will in the last days preceding Christ’s return. For us, it’s a time of hope as our redemption draws near, but for those yet saved, they lack the same hope and instead may find themselves living in fear as to what tomorrow may bring.

In Revelation 19:10 we’re told that the essence of bible prophecy is Jesus, “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” My purpose in writing these articles in relation to bible prophecy is to express this truth to ultimately point you to Christ. Bible prophecy is not meant to scare but to prepare. These things were revealed to us so that we have confidence in God’s word and believe in Jesus, “Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He,”(John 13:19).

If you have not placed your faith in Jesus’ finished work on the cross, I implore you to do so today (2 Corinthians 6:2)! The bible makes it clear that our life is like a vapor so tomorrow isn’t guaranteed for anyone (James 4:13-14). Because of our sinful and fallen state (Psalm 51:5Romans 3:23) there’s nothing we can do of our own efforts to reach God or somehow work our way to heaven (Isaiah 64:6).

God instead has provided a way to him through Christ who is the only way to be saved (John 14:6). Although God offers humanity the gift of eternal life through the shed blood of his son, it’s our choice to either reject this gift and pay for the penalty of our sin ourselves or accept it by placing our trust in the one who’s already paid it all in full (Acts 16:30-31Romans 6:23Ephesians 2:8-9). Make sure you’ve made the right decision about Jesus today! It will be the most important decision of your life, for eternal life.

Make Your Decision for Christ NOW!!!!!!! Time is Up!!!!!!!

Jesus Christ’s Offer of Salvation:

The ABCs of Salvation through Jesus Christ (the Lamb)

A. Admit/Acknowledge/Accept that you are sinner. Ask God’s forgiveness and repent of your sins.

. . . “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23).

. . . “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8).

B. Believe Jesus is Lord. Believe that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be; that He was both fully God and fully man and that we are saved through His death, burial, and resurrection. Put your trust in Him as your only hope of salvation. Become a son or daughter of God by receiving Christ.

. . . “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:15-17). For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

C. Call upon His name, Confess with your heart and with your lips that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.

. . . “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10).

. . . “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (John 1:8-10).

. . . “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (John 2:2).

. . . “In this was manifested the love of god toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.” (1 John 4:9, 14-15).

. . . “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.” (Romans 5:8-10).

. . . “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

. . . “Jesus saith unto them, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6).

. . . “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” (Romans 1:16).

. . . “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts: 4:12).

. . . “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth for there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:4-6).

. . . “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9).

. . . “But as many as received him, to them gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12).

True Church / Bride of Christ Spared from God’s Wrath:

Romans 5:8-10. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”

Romans 12:19. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 1:10. And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 5:9. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Romans 8:35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Jeremiah 30:7. Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it.

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

  1. Paul Rolland, Can you please help me to understand. I thought, the rapture has to happen BEFORE everything. Although when I read my Bible, it seems to me that we are already at the point of the 6th seal being opened. I don’t want to be confused by what i read and I read it over and over hoping to see something new that I did not understand before. Can you please help me understand? Can you write an article about where we are in the seals? I REALLLLY would appreciate it. I wwant to be able to look at my Bible and know WHERE I am in God’s timeline. Thank you. please reply.

The Rapture / Harpazo has not occurred yet. The ‘first seven’ seals of the Tribulation have not (are not) occurring. We, the Bride or Church are still in the ‘end times’ period leading up to the seven (7) year tribulation. The period we are living in epochally is the ‘Age of Grace.’ This period will have ended, once the 7 year tribulation starts. You may agree or disagree, but my discernment is that we are on the cusp of the end of the Age of Grace and the beginning of the tribulation will start very soon. My understanding and teaching is the Rapture / Harpazo has to occur FIRST and then the 7 year tribulation starts with Christ opening the 7 seals. Paul
