THE REAL MAD MAX. World’s biggest ‘post apocalyptic’ festival celebrates 10th anniversary in scenes straight out of a sci fi movie. Another ‘Burning Man,’ this one in the Sahara desert. Five (5) days. Ten (5+5) years in the making. ‘Be careful what you ask for. Sow what you reap.’

WASTELAND Weekend, a post-apocalypse-themed festival in the Mojave desert, brings Mad Max to life. The dystopian film-series inspired festival sees revellers decked out in full post-apocalypse themed costumes for the full five days, complete with studded bikinis, ram skull headdresses and tentacled masks. Wasteland Weekend celebrated its tenth anniversary this year and revellers flocked to the desert in their masses. Created in 2010 by Karol Bartoszynski, Jared Butler and James Howard, the festival sees its participants spend the entire weekend in post-apocalyptic costume. Costumes are mandatory at the event and it has been reported that revellers attempting to enter in civilian clothes are subject to the chant “needs more dirt!” Those looking for the ultimate post-apocalyptic fantasy can expect to be greeted with themed campsites and vehicles, fire performers, live bands and DJs and even an on-site casino.
