Hurricane Update

Lorenzo rapidly strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane on September 28 and 29, 2019, and became the strongest hurricane this far north and east in the Atlantic basin on record.

Blog note. Jesus indicated that ‘fearful sights’ (various natural disasters) would occur leading up to the time known as the Tribulation and Great Tribulation (a combined seven year period of great destruction on earth). Although these types of things have occurred in the past for centuries and thousands of years, they could be identified as the ‘season of the times’ due to the ferociousness of these events. They would be occurring in greater intensity, severity, frequency, size, duration, scope … just like the pains that a woman experiences in labor the farther along she is in the labor process. We are in the ‘season of the times’ that comes just before the seven (7) year Tribulation/Great Tribulation period

… And great earthquakes shall be in diverse places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. (Luke 21:11).

… And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; (Luke 21:25)

… Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken; (Luke 21:26)

… This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2 Timothy 3:1)

Jesus is giving a series of prophecies about what to look for as the age of grace comes to a close. These verses are several of many such prophecies from throughout the Bible. 2017 was the worst year in recorded history for the intensity, frequency, severity, duration and occurrence of a large number of severe natural disasters worldwide. Earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, torrential flooding, unprecedented wildfires in unusual places, devastating droughts, excessive/scorching heat setting records everywhere, record snowfalls in Europe and Russia. Snow in the Arabia. This list can go on. Most studied Eschatologists believe these ‘fearful sights’ and massive natural disasters are all part of the ‘CONVERGENCE’ of signs that this Biblical and prophetic age is closing. Most people who study prophecy are familiar with the routine reference(s) made that these things will be like a woman having labor pains, growing in intensity, frequency, size and duration.

At 03:00 UTC on September 29, the center of Hurricane “Lorenzo” was located 2 285 km (1 420 miles) SE of the Azores. Its maximum sustained winds were 260 km/h (10 mph). The system is moving N at 17 km/h (10 mph) with minimum central pressure of 925 hPa.

A turn to the north-northeast is expected on Sunday, followed by a turn to the northeast by Monday. A faster northeast motion is expected by Tuesday.

A turn to the north-northeast is expected on Sunday, followed by a turn to the northeast by Monday. A faster northeast motion is expected by Tuesday. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible through Sunday. A weakening trend is forecast to begin Sunday night. However, Lorenzo is expected to be a large and potent hurricane as is approaches the Azores in a few days.

Swells generated by Lorenzo are affecting portions of the northeastern coast of South America and the Lesser Antilles and are expected to spread westward to portions of the north coasts of the Greater Antilles, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the east coast of the United States during the next few days. Swells are also expected to build near the Azores on Sunday and Monday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

Lorenzo has already generated the 9th most Accumulated Cyclone Energy by an Atlantic hurricane east of 45°W in satellite era (since 1966), CSU meteorologist Dr. Philip Klotzbach said September 27. “Given National Hurricane Center track and intensity forecast for Lorenzo, it may surpass the current record holder: Frances 1980.”

Here are some more interesting statistics provided by Dr. Klotzbach:

Lorenzo has been a major (Category 3+) hurricane east of 45°W for 2 days – the most major hurricane days by an Atlantic hurricane east of 45°W on record. This breaks the old Atlantic record set by Hurricane “Carrie” of 1.75 days set in 1957.

By September 29, Lorenzo has surpassed Humberto for 2nd place for 2019 Atlantic Accumulated Cyclone Energy by a hurricane. However, Dorian will retain the top spot, since Lorenzo will become post-tropical in 4-5 days.

2019 is the 7th Atlantic hurricane season on record with at least 2 Category 5 hurricanes. Other years are 1932, 1933, 1961, 2005, 2007, and 2017. 2019’s Category 5 hurricanes are Dorian and Lorenzo.

Lorenzo’s current central pressure of 925 hPa is the lowest by any Atlantic #hurricane east of 50°W on record. Prior record was 933 hPa by Edouard (1996), Gert (1999) and Igor (2010).
