Saudi Crown Prince claims ‘terrorist cell’ attempted to assassinate him

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman claimed that a ‘terrorist cell’ which had planned to assassinate him was arrested in the north of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt earlier this year.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the Saudi Crown Prince made the revelation during a meeting with Evangelical Christians who visited Riyadh on 1 November. He said that the cell included Saudi nationals.
The head of the delegation, Joel Rosenberg, a dual Israeli-American citizen who once worked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Bin Salman described the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi as “a mistake” and a “heinous act” that will not go unpunished.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 10, Rosenberg said Bin Salman stressed that he will not allow the murder to hinder “his ability to take his country where it wants to go”.
“My enemies are exploiting this [the murder] to the fullest,” Bin Salman is reported to have said.
According to Rosenberg, Bin Salman criticised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Iranians and even the Russians.
Rosenberg said Bin Salman also spoke about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the warm relations between Riyadh and Tel Aviv for 90 minutes of the two-hour meeting. However, the Saudi prince asked members of the delegation not to disclose what he had said.
