MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY HONOUR LGBT+ COMMUNITY TO MARK PRIDE MONTH

The Independent. June 2, 2019

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have paid tribute to the LGBT+ community as Pride Month began.

The royal couple shared a message on their official Instagram account highlighting their support for LGBT+ individuals and organisations.

“Continuing with our tradition to rotate the accounts we follow based on causes and social issues that matter to us: For the month of June we ‘proudly’ shine a light on PRIDE,” it read. “This month we pay tribute to the accounts supporting the LGBT+ community – those young and old, their families and friends, accounts that reflect on the past and are hopeful for a deservedly more inclusive future.”

The royals added that they “stand with” and “support” the LGBT+ community, before stating: “Because it’s very simple: love is love.”

The caption was accompanied by a collage of the accounts Prince Harry and Meghan are now following on the social media platform, in addition to a piece of artwork of late transgender woman Muhlaysia Booker by artist Ruben Guadalupe Marquez.

The couple are now following 11 accounts including the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Stonewall, The Trevor Project, Albert Kennedy Trust and Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Matthew Shepard Foundation shared a message of gratitude on its Instagram story, writing: “Thank you @sussexroyal for including us with so many inspiring organisations!”

The Trevor Project commented underneath the post, stating: “Thank you so much for supporting our lifesaving work.”

Several people expressed their admiration towards the duke and duchess for their public support of the LGBT+ community.

“This is just AWESOME,” diver and Olympic medallist Tom Daley wrote on Instagram.

“We stand for a couple that promotes inclusivity and diversity!” another wrote.

The duke and duchess have previously announced on the social media site that they were supporting several mental health organisations ahead of Mental Health Awareness Month in the US and Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK.

They followed several Instagram accounts dedicated to mental health awareness, including Anxiety UK, I Weigh and Black Mental Health Matters.

And ……whether they like it or not….God is God and sin is sin and that’s not gonna change in order to be politically correct, or….to please Meghan Markle, you know….Harry’s activist, liberal wife. I know, I know…we aren’t supposed to judge her. I know she was required to be baptized in the Church of England before she could marry her prince….but well. This gal’s as liberal as they come.
