Four-fold Reference to Plagues Poured out on Evil Mankind:
- Torment by Demonic Locusts: … “And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of god in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.” (Rev. 9:3-6). (Emphasis added).
- Noisome/Grievous Sores: … “And the first (angel) went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.” (Rev. 16:2). (Emphasis added).
- Scorching Heat: … “And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And Men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.” (Rev. 16:8-9). (Emphasis added).
- Great Hail: … “And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.” (Rev. 16:21). (Emphasis added).
Commentary: These plagues or afflictions round out God’s plan of pouring out wrath upon evil mankind. For the most part, the trumpet and vial wraths are poured out on the earth directly; sun, moon, stars, seas, rivers, lakes, fountains, trees, grasses and the earth’s internal structural integrity. All these natural elements support man’s existence on earth. In the first four seal judgments (horsemen of the apocalypse), God is using evil men against evil men, through wars – famines – pestilences and death. The carnage during this early period of the Tribulation is caused primarily by men acting upon men. God saves his worst wrath (vial plagues for the earth) just prior to Christ’s second coming, a.k.a. The Great Day of the Lord. The four wraths described above are directly poured out upon men. Three afflictions come from nature and one affliction comes directly from a demonic source (supernaturally evil locusts).
