Saudi crown prince MbS emphasizes al-Azhar’s role in defending Islam

During the second day of his state visit to Egypt, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman affirmed Egypt’s al-Azhar important role in confronting the dangers facing the Islamic and Arab world.

This came during his meeting with the Sheikh of Al-A

zhar on Monday at their offices in Cairo where he met the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb.

At the beginning of the meeting, el-Tayeb welcomed the Saudi delegation where he expressed appreciation of Al-Azhar and the Egyptian people to the government and people of Saudi Arabia.

For his part, the Saudi Crown Prince expressed his country’s appreciation for al-Azhar al-Sharif and its distinguished scholars, stressing his personal pride in Al-Azhar and its imam in their efforts as one of the most important pillars of Islamic thought in the Arab world.

He also expressed Saudi Arabia’s appreciation of the role played by the Egyptian institution in spreading a culture of moderation, coexistence, peace and combating extremist thought.
