Blog note. A mark on the forehead would be next to the eyes (iris scan), a mark on the right hand would be next to a finger print scan. How easy would it be to scan both the beast’s mark/name/number and eye/fingers at the same time for biometric verification, validation and approval to buy/sell?

UAE gov’t departments to adopt new biometric verification process: Facial-recognition and iris scan system will be in place within two years

Government departments across the UAE will be using facial-recognition and iris scans to identify customers within the next two years, according to a news report. As of now, residents have to show their Emirates ID at majority of the government departments to complete any transaction.

“Iris scans and facial recognition are very important add-ons to our system,” Shukri Al Braiki, director, Emirates Identity Authority, told The National. “You use biometrics to ensure that you avoid duplicating a record, which means issuing more than one ID number to the same person. We avoid that through fingerprints but when you depend on one factor in biometrics, there is always room for error. So the accuracy is 99.5 to 99.8 percent but that could increase to 99.95 per cent if you have several biometric technologies,” he said.

Iris scans and fingerprints are already by travellers at UAE airports.
