Three-fold Reference to  Prophets Speaking Through the Power of the Holy Spirit:

The Emphasis and Intensity of God (3)

Three’s (3) Denote God’s emphasis and Intensity. Three scoops of ice cream are better than one or two scoops! If you want to impress upon someone, give them three scoops. That will be about as much as most people can handle. Emphasize three scoops of someone’s favorite flavor and that will wake up their taste buds … now that is intense! God uses three’s (3) to say what he means and to mean what he says.

Three-fold Reference to  Prophets Speaking Through the Power of the Holy Spirit.

  1. John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne; And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priest unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” (Rev. 1:4-6). (Emphasis added).
  2. I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Rev. 1:9). (Emphasis added).
  3. … “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.” (Rev. 11:3). (Emphasis added).

Commentary: John, the Apostle, received the Revelation of Jesus Christ through the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit provided John with visions and of those things which he heard and saw. The Holy Spirit commanded him to “write.”  The Holy Spirit prompted John to use symbolism in his writing when the theme or context of what was being communicated was complex. The Holy Spirit worked through John, to provide the prophecies contained throughout Revelation. Although this occurred in the past, the Holy Spirit will still be alive and well and working in the future to empower the two witnesses, or prophets that God sends to earth to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to evil mankind during the Tribulation period. The Holy Spirit was active in the past, is active today, and will be active in the future. It will enable the two prophets to speak with power, conviction and strength. It will empower them to be able to withstand attempts on their life, it will empower them to inflict plagues on evil men, as they choose. It will empower them to speak the word of God, as he so chooses.
