The Emphasis and Intensity of God (3)
Three’s (3) Denote God’s emphasis and Intensity. Three scoops of ice cream are better than one or two scoops! If you want to impress upon someone, give them three scoops. That will be about as much as most people can handle. Emphasize three scoops of someone’s favorite flavor and that will wake up their taste buds … now that is intense! God uses three’s (3) to say what he means and to mean what he says.
Three-fold Reference to New Jerusalem:
- … “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God which is new Jerusalem, which commeth down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” (Rev. 3:12). (Emphasis added).
- … “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Rev. 21:2). (Emphasis added).
- … “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,” (Rev. 21:10). (Emphasis added).
Commentary: All three verses describe the New Jerusalem, as coming down from or descending out of heaven. It is a heavenly city that is literally created new, and comes down in proximity to a renewed earth. The New Jerusalem is intended to be God’s and The Lamb’s place of being with redeemed saints. Other verses that refer to the New Jerusalem indicate how magnificent and glorious it is. Natural (sunlight) or artificial light will not even be necessary to light it because the light and glory of God and The lamb will be in it. The New Jerusalem should be distinguished from the earthly or current Jerusalem in Israel. The New Jerusalem becomes an upgrade in function and form compared to the older, heavenly based temple. It is God’s desire to tabernacle or dwell with redeemed men in this city.
