‘Perilous, Dangerous Times’: Record rise in homeless people dying, ONS figures show amid opioid and spice epidemic. Two in five (5) of the deaths were related to drug poisoning – an increase of 55% on 2017 and compared to just over 15% for the population as a whole. “The deaths of over 725 homeless people in England and Wales recorded in 2018 represent an increase of over a fifth on the previous year. That’s the largest rise over 5 years since these figures began in 2013. Deaths from drugs had more than doubled over the six (6) years. More than five (5) deaths due to drug overdoses, every day. A lot of ‘five’s’ (5) in the data.
