RIYADH: A GLOBAL EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL AI OLYMPIAD GETS UNDERWAY IN RIYADH ON SUNDAY, WITH TEAMS FROM 25 (5X5) COUNTRIES EXPECTED TO TAKE PART.
The event, which will run until Thursday, is being organized by the (5) SAUDI DATA and ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AUTHORITY in collaboration with UNESCO, the International Center for AI Research and Ethics, and the International (5) Research Center on Artificial Intelligence, in Slovenia.
(5) THE SDAIA HOPES THE OLYMPIAD will serve as (5) A PLATFORM FOR AI COMPETITIONS, and nurture talent while fostering skills development, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The event will be a forum for scientists and enthusiasts from around the world to compete and also exchange ideas, enhance capabilities, and explore the latest advances in the field, the SPA added.
The SDAIA has prepared for the event over the past FIVE (5) WEEKS BY HOLDING A SERIES (5) OF VIRTUAL LECTURES ON AI designed to qualify international teams for the competition and empower students from various countries to expand their knowledge in the sector.

RIYADH: SAUDI ARABIA, REPRESENTED BY THE GENERAL AUTHORITY FOR STATISTICS, HAS WON THE BID TO HOST THE UN WORLD DATA FORUM 2026 IN RIYADH.
It was recently announced by the HIGH-LEVEL GROUP FOR PARTNERSHIP, COORDINATION AND CAPACITY-BUILDING FOR STATISTICS FOR THE 2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
The decision followed a majority vote after a review of proposals from competing countries, highlighting their ability to host the global event.
Fahad Al-Dossari, president of the General Authority for Statistics, presented Saudi Arabia’s bid during the group’s meeting. His presentation outlined the authority’s advancements in statistical work, THE KINGDOM’S EXPERIENCE HOSTING INTERNATIONAL EVENTS AND ITS CAPACITY TO PROVIDE LOGISTICAL SUPPORT FOR SUCH GATHERINGS.
The proposal also introduced a suggested theme for the forum: “USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES AND METHODOLOGIES TO ENHANCE GLOBAL STATISTICAL SYSTEMS AND ENABLE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.”
Al-Dossari said: “Hosting this event reflects the Kingdom’s prominent status, affirming King Salman and CROWN PRINCE MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN’S COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING THE STATISTICAL SECTOR, RECOGNIZING THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF STATISTICAL DATA IN ACHIEVING COMPREHENSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.”
He added: “Winning the bid to host the 2026 UN World Data Forum highlights the progress made in the statistical field, driven by INITIATIVES FROM THE GENERAL AUTHORITY FOR STATISTICS, WHICH AIM TO PRODUCE ACCURATE AND UPDATED DATA THROUGH IMPROVED DATA MANAGEMENT AND GOVERNANCE.”
The forum, targeting 193 UN member states, reinforces SAUDI ARABIA’S ROLE IN PROMOTING HIGH-QUALITY STATISTICAL DATA AND INDICATORS. It will invite participants from international organizations, UN member states’ statistical offices and data scientist groups.

Saudi Arabia’s government plans to create a fund of about $40 BILLION TO INVEST IN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing three people briefed on the plans, according to Reuters.
Representatives of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund have discussed a potential partnership with US venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and other financiers in recent weeks, the newspaper reported.
Andreessen Horowitz and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan have discussed the possibility of the US firm setting up an office in Riyadh, according to the report.
PIF officials also discussed what role Andreessen Horowitz could play and how such a fund would work, the newspaper said, adding the plans could still change. Other venture capitalists may participate in THE KINGDOM’S AI FUND, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO COMMENCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF 2024, the newspaper said.
Saudi representatives have indicated to potential partners that the country is interested in supporting a variety of tech start-ups associated with AI, including CHIP MAKERS AND LARGE-SCALE DATA CENTERS, the report added.
PIF and Andreessen Horowitz did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Reuters.
In February, PIF’s Al-Rumayyan pitched the Kingdom as a prospective hub for AI activity outside US, citing its energy resources and funding capacity.
Al-Rumayyan had said THE KINGDOM HAD THE “POLITICAL WILL” TO MAKE AI PROJECTS HAPPEN AND AMPLE FUNDS IT COULD DEPLOY TO NURTURE THE TECHNOLOGY’S DEVELOPMENT.

What will datacenters look like in 2030? Concerns around sustainability and the impact of AI will mean that datacenters at the end of the decade will be very different, built to be more sustainable, but also SMARTER AND MORE POWERFUL. The energy demands of datacenters are rising, with the International Energy Authority (IEA) saying they already account for up to 2% of global energy use, and this figure could double by 2026, equalling the electricity consumption of Japan. In the UK, the National Grid has predicted that the ELECTRICITY DEMANDS OF DATACENTERS COULD POTENTIALLY RISE SIX-FOLD IN JUST TEN YEARS.
What is behind this exponential surge? NEW TECHNOLOGIES SUCH AS QUANTUM COMPUTING AND GENERATIVE AI ARE PREDICTED TO DRIVE A HUGE SURGE IN DEMAND FOR ELECTRICITY. A preprint Carnegie Mellon study this year found that generating just one image with AI software uses as much energy as charging a smartphone. But AI IS ALSO PREDICTED TO DRIVE A NEW WAVE OF INNOVATION WHICH WILL HELP DEAL WITH THE CHALLENGES OF CLIMATE CHANGE, FROM LIMITING METHANE EMISSIONS FROM WASTE TO DESIGNING ‘CLEAN’ NUCLEAR FUSION REACTORS. ONE OF THE KEY CHALLENGES OF THIS DECADE IS TO UNLEASH THE BENEFITS OF AI WHILE MANAGING ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.
THE GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL DRAGON OF THE BEAST’S KINGDOM. MOHAMMED BIN SALMAN
Business leaders need to take a HOLISTIC VIEW OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF DATACENTERS, including everything from the sources of energy used to how servers are shipped to the datacenters. Within the datacenter, there needs to be a focus on how servers are cooled and whether that energy can be reused in some manner, for instance to heat nearby buildings. To build DATACENTERS FIT FOR 2030 and beyond, business leaders need to understand the full impact of this technology, and then figure out how to implement it in the most sustainable way.
THE AI REVOLUTION
WITH GENERATIVE AI APPEARING IN SOFTWARE RANGING FROM EMAIL APPS TO INTERNET SEARCH, THE ENERGY DEMANDS OF THE AI INDUSTRY IS GOING TO CONTINUE ROCKETING, with one study in the journal Cell suggesting the power demand of AI alone could match the demand of the Netherlands by 2027. The compute power required to train AI doubles every six months, and Gartner® predicts that ‘BY 2030, AI COULD CONSUME UP TO 3.5% OF THE WORLD’S ELECTRICITY’. The IEA’s report suggests that ADDING GENERATIVE AI TO SEARCH (AS COMPANIES INCLUDING GOOGLE ARE RUSHING TO DO AT PRESENT) COULD MULTIPLY THE ENERGY DEMANDS OF INTERNET SEARCHES BY 10.
All of this requires the technology industry to design carefully for sustainability, not just at the chip level, but at the server level and datacenter level. It’s also worth bearing in mind that there is a flipside to this in terms of the ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS OF INNOVATIONS SPARKED BY NEW TECHNOLOGIES. EMERGING TECHNOLOGY SUCH AS QUANTUM COMPUTING WILL BE MORE ENERGY-EFFICIENT, AND COULD ALSO MEAN THAT PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED EXPONENTIALLY FASTER THAN CLASSICAL COMPUTERS.
BOTH QUANTUM AND AI ARE EXPECTED TO DRIVE RAPID INNOVATION IN EVERYTHING FROM DEMAND RESPONSE IN THE ELECTRICITY GRID TO PHOTOVOLTAICS TO ELECTRICITY GENERATION TECHNOLOGY. THE ‘SMART GRIDS’ OF THE FUTURE WILL BE POWERED BY AI. In building decarbonisation, to take one example, Mckinsey estimates that AI can accelerate the process 100-fold compared to existing technologies.
Built for sustainability
The datacenter of the future will be designed from the bottom up with sustainability in mind. Technologies such as warm water cooling enable high performance with far less energy use, provided a host of power consumption benefits. For instance, in datacenters that use warm water-cooling, there is much less need for high-speed fans to dissipate heat. Air-cooling systems can often consume vast amounts of energy in themselves.
Furthermore, any wasted heat can be reused effectively because warm water-cooling systems produce heat waste at a temperature that is more easily reused for other purposes. Not only will this improve energy efficiency across an entire datacenter facility, but this energy can be successfully recycled in sustainable ways in the wider community. By 2030, recycling the heat from datacenter will become the norm, from heating nearby buildings and swimming pools to piping warm liquid under roads and walkways to melt ice.
The datacenters of the future will also be built around renewable energy, from renewable sources to solar panels on roofs, driving towards a future of carbon-neutral or even carbon-negative operations. Organisations will adopt ‘as a service’ approaches to AI TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY, AND INCREASINGLY BUSINESSES WILL HARNESS THE POWER OF AI TO OPTIMISE ELECTRICITY CONSUMPTION IN DATACENTERS THEMSELVES. Just as AI will assist in demand response in the electricity grid, within the datacenter, algorithms can help with optimisation, predictive maintenance and energy management. This can reduce energy consumption by improving cooling efficiency, minimising waste and optimising resource allocation.
THE ‘WHOLE LIFE’ VIEW
When designing and building a datacenter fit for the future, it’s key for business leaders to take a view across the whole lifecycle of their datacenter and the servers that will work in it. Everything from how components are designed and manufactured to how they are shipped, deployed and disposed of at the end of their lives matters, and taking a holistic view is key to making real sustainability gains. Through this decade, asset recovery services (ARS) and recycling of computer equipment will grow in importance. Other markets in EUROPE HAVE ALREADY IMPLEMENTED LEGISLATION TO REDUCE THE ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY. For example, France introduced a mandate that 20% of IT devices bought by organisations need to be refurbished, with a target of 40% by 2040.
Manufacturing products regionally to cut shipping miles will also be a key differentiator. The current shift towards ‘as-a-service’ approaches to everything from hardware to software will continue, with business leaders focusing on avoiding overprovisioning to cut carbon emissions.
Sustainable datacenters
This decade will see substantial progress towards smarter, more sustainable datacenters, even as AI drives a new surge in energy demands. On the surface, the datacenter of 2030 might look similar to the ones we have today, but careful thought will have reshaped its impact on the wider world. Everything from how servers are cooled to how resources are allocated will be done more intelligently, and renewable energy will enable a new kind of carbon neutral datacenter. THESE DATACENTERS WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO THEIR LOCAL COMMUNITIES, PROVIDING WARMTH, WHILE ALSO PROVIDING THE COMPUTING MUSCLE FOR AI TO DEAL WITH BIG GLOBAL CHALLENGES, SUCH AS CLIMATE CHANGE.

In his Gospel, John tells us that those who believe in Christ are not condemned, but THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE ARE CONDEMNED ALREADY: “BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BELIEVED IN THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD.”
‘The SECOND DEATH’ which is mentioned in this verse, is RESERVED FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS NOT TRUSTED IN CHRIST FOR THEIR SALVATION. We discover that ‘THE LAKE OF FIRE’ which God originally prepared for Satan and the angels that rebelled against Him, is called ‘THE SECOND DEATH’.
ALL THOSE WHO REJECT GOD’S OFFER OF SALVATION, WILL HAVE TO FACE ‘THE SECOND DEATH’ AND TAKE THEIR PART IN THE LAKE THAT BURNS WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE. In the Bible, death equates to separation. Physical death is spiritual separation from God, for man is born dead in their sin. Eternal death means eternal separation from God, spirit, soul, and body. But praise God that man can be redeemed by faith. Man can be born again of the Spirit, and not take part in ‘The Second Death’.
The Amplified Bible labels the unbelievers in this verse as: “Cowards and the ignoble; the contemptible and those that cravenly lack courage. They are the unbelieving, the faithless, the depraved, and those defiled with abominations. They include murderers and the lewd, adulterers and those that practise magic arts and all idolaters.” THEY INCLUDE THOSE WHO GIVE SUPREME DEVOTION TO ANYONE OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN GOD. IT ALSO TELLS US THAT LIARS AND THOSE WHO KNOWINGLY CONVEY UNTRUTHS BY WORD OR DEED, WILL PARTICIPATE IN ‘THE SECOND DEATH’. IN SHORT, EVERYONE WHO HAS NOT BELIEVED GOD’S WORD AND TRUSTED IN HIS MESSIAH FOR THEIR SALVATION, WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE LAKE THAT BURNS WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE, WHICH REVELATION CALLS ‘THE SECOND DEATH’.
The fact of a ‘Second Death’ implies that there is a ‘First Death’, but these conditions more correctly are linked with the ‘Resurrection’ of the dead. We read: “An hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs (both the saved and the unsaved) will hear His voice. They will be resurrected from their tombs and come forth from the grave.” It goes on to say: “Those who did good deeds (by believing on the Word of God) will come out of their graves to a Resurrection of LIFE, while;
THOSE WHO COMMITTED EVIL DEEDS (BY NOT BELIEVING ON THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF GOD) WILL COME OUT OF THEIR GRAVES TO A RESURRECTION OF JUDGMENT OR DAMNATION.” THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE DISTURBINGLY CALLS ‘THE SECOND DEATH’.
Being part of ‘The First Resurrection’ is the privilege of everyone who has been saved by grace through faith in God’s trustworthy Word. Every believer, from both Old and New Testaments and up to the present day, who have died in faith by believing God’s Word, are reckoned as righteous and will participate in ‘The First Resurrection’. They will not be hurt by ‘The Second Death’.
Believers will be resurrected at several different times e.g. The Church at the Rapture, before the Tribulation Period; Old Testament and Tribulation saints at the Second Coming, at the end of the Tribulation Period; Millennial saints at the end of the Millennium. Although the timing of the resurrections will differ, all these believers will take part in ‘The First Resurrection’.
THE ‘SECOND RESURRECTION’ IS RESERVED FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WILFULLY REJECTED GOD’S WORD AND REFUSED HIS OFFER OF SALVATION. THEY WILL BE RESURRECTED FROM THE DEAD AND JUDGED AT THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGEMENT OF GOD, AT THE END OF THE MILLENNIUM PERIOD – AND THEY WILL BE FOUND WANTING.
GREAT WHITE THRONE AND ETERNAL JUDGEMENT
THIS SORRY GROUP OF UNSAVED MEN AND WOMEN WILL CONSIST OF: “THE COWARDLY AND UNBELIEVING AND ABOMINABLE AND MURDERERS AND IMMORAL PERSONS AND SORCERERS AND IDOLATERS AND ALL LIARS, AND THEIR PART WILL BE IN THE LAKE THAT BURNS WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE, WHICH IS THE SECOND DEATH.”
This is not a subject that should be swept under the Church carpet, as so often happens in Christendom today, but is a serious subject that should be faced, and UNBELIEVERS SHOULD BE CHALLENGED SO THAT THEY MAY HEAR THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL OF GRACE AND BELIEVE THE MESSAGE OF REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST, AND BE SAVED.
My Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the many warnings we receive of the importance of believing on the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin and life everlasting. Thank You that by grace through faith in Christ, I will not be hurt by ‘The Second Death’. Thank You that You will judge the world in righteousness. In Your wrath and judgement, I pray that You would be merciful, and during these days when salvation is still available to anyone who trusts in Jesus, I ASK THAT MANY UNBELIEVERS WOULD HEAR THE GOOD NEWS OF THE GOSPEL, BE SAVED AND ESCAPE FROM THE WRATH TO COME. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
