US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the USS Boxer destroyed an Iranian drone that had come within 1,000 yards of the ship in the Strait of Hormuz, between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

“The Boxer took defensive action against an Iranian drone, which had closed into a near distance, approximately 1000 yards,” Trump said.

“This is the latest of many provocative and hostile actions by Iran against vessels operating in international waters.” Trump said, according to CNN reporter Steve Brusk. “The United States reserves the right to defend our personnel, our facilities and interest and calls upon all nations to condemn Iran’s attempts to disrupt freedom of navigation and global commerce. I also call on other nation to protect their ships as they go through the strait.” Earlier on Thursday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that they had seized a foreign ship carrying one million liters of smuggled fuel south of Larak Island in the Persian Gulf on Sunday.
