The Divinely Determined Completeness of God’s Plan or Purpose (7) (Part 15)
Seven-fold Thunders: . . .
“And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.” (Rev. 10:3-4). (Emphasis added).
Commentary: These two verses have to be taken into context with surrounding verses to be fully understood. The scene starts with John seeing a mighty and glorious angel who has a mysterious little book in his hand that contains bitter prophecies. John then hears the seven thunders commanding him NOT to write what he just heard. The mighty angel then acknowledges, by the divine authority of God, that there will be no more delay (time no longer) in withholding God’s judgements and increased wrath. Why would God command John not to prophesy about what he was just told by the seven thunders? God is letting us know, through this commandment to John, that this particular set of prophesies were not meant to be known. They are to be mysterious and will be revealed during the Tribulation when appropriate. Revelation 10:7 indicates that this mystery of God will be finished when the voice of the seventh angel is sounded. God is exercising his will as what to make known and what not to be made known. The best we can do is speculate, but I will not go down that path. The only hint that God gives us is through the proclamation from the great angel who indicates that the little book of prophesies contains bitter events or judgements (Rev. 10:9-10).
